My skimmer a Red Sea RSK 600(NOT DC) HAS BEEN LITERALLY OVER SKIMMING LIKE CRAZY FOR ALMOST 2 WEEKS. This following a two day treatment with chemiclean . Interestingly, for the 48 hours I was treating, the skimmer was operating, normally the gate valve is turned all the way counterclockwise.. ONLY after I emptied out the collection cup, and cleaned it that it started to go wild.
It may have slowed down slightly, but I still have the overflow hose dumping water back into the tank. I read NORMALIZATION can take up the two weeks. The only other thing that happened during the same time. Was unfortunately my. return pump failed I lost about 15 medium frags when the temperature climbed to 90° because my heating elements were in the tank and the sensors were in the non-circulating sump

The skimmer is super sensitive and may be too big for my sump, but I’m not sure if that is part of the problem. Normally, I have it turned all the way counterclockwise to keep the skim from becoming too wet.

I’m wondering if it’s just the chemi clean or perhaps the loss of 15 LPS coral +2 fish one of which I was not able to retrieve ( medium sized angel in a 210 gallon system) is also causing the skimmer to overreact I don’t see any blockage of flow around the skimmer and any input would be very helpful.

I’ve Done 3 40 gallon water changes in the last 10 days as well . The livestock look normal nitrates are 18.

I’m not home right now and I may not be able to get a good picture until the day after tomorrow my wife sent me this. The water level is roughly halfway up the skimmer, which is already on the stand and previously worked fine until the treatment with chemiclean

Pitb. My valve position changes so it's not a static setting ; usually when I empty the cup. I adjust the valve until the bubbles are peaking just under or at he bottom of the cup and walk away. Hopefully thats it but sometimes it goes too wet and I have to empty and repeat. Sometimes just once, sometimes a few times. Idk why exactly. Skimmers are fiddly things

That’s the problem adjusting my gate valve is not making a difference in the height of the bubbles. I’m wondering if valve is blocked underneath I’ll have to check that when I get home maybe it has nothing to do with treating with chemi clean

Chemiclean is probably still an issue. Run some well rinsed high quality carbon and a couple more 40 gallon water changes.
