Grabbed some rubble from the back of the RSM, a bit of crushed coral and some of the sand. The bare bottom irritated me.

Also might see if I can catch one of the red headed Gobies down the line, hopefully both

So I arrived home last night to find that I may have blocked off a bit too much of the weir and the water level in the display section of the tank got a little high
IMG_20200204_185110.thumb.jpg.23352a154cfa0b819d020d764d8f7ab7.jpg

So I knocked out a bit of putty on each side and the central section of the weir to allow a bit more flow, close call

Decided that I may as well try and use this kit up as it expires in April 2020

Just going to let it do it's thing now

So picked up some more Macroalgae for the tanks, since I am at work it has been thrown into a floating breeders box until I can sort through it and "plant" into the tank

Been chatting to some local reefers and I think that I am going for the Montipora Genus as stocking for this tank. I have very little experience with SPS corals so would like to test myself and what I can do. I also miss that big green plating monti that I had.

So below are some of the frags that i am looking at picking up, the Monti Hirsuta and one of the "grafted" caps, I plan to pick up the larger (depending on how they're based) and split the graft so i have a green and red cap. The caps will go towards the base of the rockwall to prevent shading to corals under them.

Eying up that Acro frag as well asa "centrepiece island" coral, maybe....

Getting closer to a cycle, not there yet.

Added some more macro algae, some more "cycled" dry rock, made a macro island

Some of the macro's didn't want to play so the blue octodes and Codium got stuck to the eggcrate/weir. So be it

Macro island

Also ordered the start of a clean up crew, should arrive next week along with some pods and phyto. Might pick up a frag next week.

Watch the C prolifera but at the base, what the roots are doing and keep it pruned.
My 550 litre water volume runs on this and I love it as it is great nutrient export but it loves to spread, think of it like gardening, keep it under control! ;)

Thanks, I clipped and ripped as much of the root system off as i could before gluing it to the rock. Had this before in a Pico and it took over. I actually really liked the overgorwn jungle look of it but will keep on top of this lot

So this one is ticking over nicely, have stopped testing after confirming Ammonia could be reduced over 24 hours, two days in a row.

I am however thinking about whether or not I should bother to buy test kits for Alk, Mg and Ca, the low water volume would mean that planned weekly water changes would replace the used nutrients that the corals require but would I still need to test?

Got a small Clean up Crew of Stomatella Snails, Baby Brittle Stars and Bristle Worms arriving on Thursday, along with some Animo Acids, Rotifers, Copepods, Phyto. Waiting until the 28th to place my first order of SPS Corals, trying to decide between local reefers cutting me nubs, or going with a online Vendor as a sponsor....

I like the local reefers idea as I would stand a better chance at gaining a more hardy coral (I think) but would be limited by choices...

Those are great pics!
Thanks. Taken a while but finally figured out the settings on my phones camera. I like the fact I can address the white balance to cancel out the blue light and get detailed naturally looking shots, without adding macro lenses or downloading apps.

@najer the c prolifera "roots" are all putting out this array of smaller roots at the moment. Not seen this before, mainly I think as I treated it like I would have java fern in the past.
IMG_20200212_133714.jpg

Haven't seen much diatoms, just a tiny dusting here and there. I seem to have a fully fledged GHA stage however
IMG_20200212_133754.jpg

Still not cleaned the glass since setting up, small amount of film algae forming near the Rockwall. Rockwall itself is covered in microbubbles so need to figure that out

Filament roots for nutrient absorption and for grabbing hold as it spreads, my tangs love those! ;)
Could the micro bubbles be to do with the adhesive used on the wall?

Possibly, also I seem to be getting a load of microbubbles from where I have raised the weir in my back chamber so the pump does spit those into the display as well. I have a plan for that although need to wait until payday :(
