So I added another ai prime to my nuvo 20g tank. They are both running ab+ (currently in acclimation mode 50% 30 days) and I have a few people telling me its overkill for my plan of an sps dominant system. Just wanted to see what you guys have to say.

My goal is higher par on the edges and less shadowing
Opinions?

Are they primes or prime HDs? I had a single original prime over a standard 10g, and while it would keep sticks alive it wasn’t enough to make them flourish. 2 primes over a nuvo 20 would be great in my opinion...

But hey... I have a Hydra 26 hd over a standard 15g lol.

I have 2 primes running at near 100% over a Nuvo 10, so you should be fine. When I added my second I think I ramped it up over a period of weeks without problems.

Now that's some serious lighting! And what is a good ramp up period for you? Is what I doing good?

This made me feel a lot better. I felt dumb when I posted on my facebook group because I instantly got people saying "that's overkill" "why would you add another?"

Definitely not overkill. I’ve recently swapped out the AI Prime HDs for a Reef Breeders 24” Photon V2+ fixture. I was not getting enough par and too much shadowing on the ends of the tank where I have frag racks mounted. Great lights, easy to program.

glad i stumbled across your thread. Im looking to upgrade my lighting on my Nuvo20. I'm guessing you guys would recommend 2 Primes if I went that route. I was thinking one Hydra 32 would be good as well.

I ended up sticking with the 2 primes and it is working out great for my tank!
