I am half way through my second gallons of brs two part, I have been testing my mag numbers and they have yet to drop below 1400 since I've started dosing 2part (about 3-4 months). I have not added any magnesium as brs instructs even though I have finished off a gallon mix. The tank in general seems healthy tons of coralline but the sps growth has slowed a bit in the last 2 weeks or so (chemistry may not be the issue but that's what got me testing). Is my weekly water change responsible for replenishing the mag? I am concerned that something is amiss which could compound and lead to tank chemistry disaster.

My tank info..
2 years old
52 gallons total water
Mixed reef
Hw Marinemix salt
5 gallon water change every week
Apex controlled DoS
27ml calcium chloride and soda ash dosed daily
Temp 78-78.5
Salinity 33.86 apex, 1.025 refractometer
Alk 9.4 hannah
Cal 472 hannah
Mag 1480 Red Sea pro
PH 8.08-7.84 apex throughout the day, 8.2 Red Sea pro

Tomorrow is supposed to be water change day so I wanted to test my numbers before the water change. Thanks in advance.

You have an interesting mystery, not a pending disaster. :)

Hw Marinemix salt

Have you tested a few freshly mixed batches of saltwater to confirm what your salt mix is contributing?

Not yet I'm hoping to get to the water change today and I'll test it then.

Magnesium depletion is quite slow, which is why I originally devised the DIY recipe to not add it very often. Also, many salt mixes are very high in magnesium.

If you had been adding the magnesium at the prescribed rate, magnesium wouldn't be much higher than it is now.

I'd stick to the recommended recipe because it is there for more than magnesium (it balances the chloride and sulfate which gets skewed from using calcium chloride).

But not dosing for a while is also OK. :)
