Was looking at housing pictures and thinking, 80's, 90's, 80's, 70's.....

What are the "new" trends in kitchens, bathrooms and colors in the past 15 years?

Is *grey* really a thing now??

Last time I paid attention, granite countertops were all the new rage in the late 90's and those silly "garden tubs" (lets take a bath in front of a wide open picture window.) were from the late 80's.

I'm a Contractor/carpenter in San Diego and I get to work in some really nice homes here most of the time.

I'd say a lot has changed even in the last 15 years, and shall continue to do so obviously, and while there may be trends like opening kitchens to share w/ dining areas and a lot more open floor plans, colors really vary depending on taste and style.

I do see a lot of greys, yes, especially w/ those that like modern or industrial design.
Grey also seems fitting for those that like classic or long lasting decor as opposed to people who like bright colors and change colors more often.

Quartz seems as or more popular than granite these days, and other products are being used more, concrete tops, epoxy and epoxy/wood mixes

I also see a ton of "reclaimed lumber" building, accent walls especially which often is not really reclaimed at all, but new lumber just made to look old.

Lots of copper or galvanized pipe fixtures w/ old school filament lights for accent lighting, and of course most main lighting are LED's now

And yes, lots of big freestanding tubs in front of picture windows, and everyone seems to have showers w/ multiple shower heads/ body spray and or that giant downfall head.

This is about the same everywhere it seems. I am right now doing a Huge Master Bathroom. Quarts Counter tops , with classic marble tile thou 12x24 on shower walls a Basket weave of the same type of tile on the shower floor and Niche to match .. Dark Gray Vanity with Quarts top matching the Quarts Curb and Niche shelves.. Walls are a light bluish gray . Flooring the same a MARBLE Looking Porcelain 12x24 again... All Brush nickle finish on all fixtures .
One big thing with bathrooms lately, Kinda similar to the trend to open up kitchen walls to entertainment areas is Moving the toilet to its own space. This one we turned a bathroom shower stall into a water closet for toilet and replaced the drop in tub with a huge shower.. I have done 5 this year where i removed a tub for a shower..

The trend in here is what is called "modern squares"..

Huge windows, simple and minimal enteriors with mostly white colors.. grey/silver is where the squares come in... kind of like boxes around those huge windows with a different color than white.. (mostley grey or beige)

AHHH Y... nope i am not typing that.. your only as old as old as you think you are plus the number of years since you were hatched

I specialize in DuPont Corian solid surface and DuPont Corian Quartz surfaces. Neutral colors, tans, grays, with marble patterns are the main sellers today. We have quite a few customers who just want plain solid gray for counters. I do not like fabricating granite due to the weak structure of many natural stones. Spend all week making a kitchen for someone only to have the natural granite develop a crack or fissure that only showed up when the material was cut or moved. Never happens with Quartz and with DuPont you get a 10 INSTALLED warranty. That means the product and our installation is warranted for 10 years by DuPont. Only authorized DuPont fabricators can give you that warranty and service. No other product has a warranty like that. DuPont has over a hundred colors of solid surface and over 40 colors of Quartz. DuPont sells colorants and paints to other companies and is the trend setter in color pallets in my experience.

All other Quartz products are 15 year product warranty which means the fabrication and installation are not warranted. Try to get any warranty from the other companies is like pulling teeth with out anesthetic. Home Depot is 1 year installation to the products they sell...so that is better than a tail light warranty but just barely.

I also do really like quartz.











And here is something I just started doing, staining my material grey first, then espresso stain after the grey has set in, wipe most of brown off and a blue grey shines through it, looks kinda nice. These are false beams I just built stained and installed.
