What kind of light schedule and PAR are you running? What are you dosing?

I'm currently running my 4 Radions for 12hours a day, 2-3h ramp up and down. I'm also running 8 T5 bulbs for about 6 hours mid day.

I have a calcium reactor for maintaining the big three. I'm not dosing anything else besides feeding the fish.

It’s been a while since I posted any updates here but decided it’s time.

About a year ago I overdosed some micro elements by mistake. This was about the closest I’ve come to system crash. Over a year later things are doing really well again.

I think the iodine reading must be a mistake as I’ve not been supplementing and corals are not showing any stress.

Couple more display pictures and a reminder how important it is to quarantine.

I had these new clams in qt for over a month before I noticed some pyramid snails. I had no idea how small these buggers are! I would recommend everyone get a pair of these cool glasses for inspection.

I shudder to think of the pain in the butt these would have been if introduced to my main system.

Thank you for the update.

Unfortunately Pyramids can come in on larger snail types, such as Turbo, as well.

Your system looks fantastic.

🙂

I had read this, but wondered the chances. I've been in the hobby for 10+ years and this is the first time I've seen the pest. Doubt many are putting their clean up crew through QT, but maybe most people wouldn't even notice these little guys on a snail. I had a tank for years with polyclads and didn't know. When I figured it out the signs were there, but I wasn't knowledgeable at the time to read the clues.

After two months of QT, I was confident I cleared the pyramids and moved these clams to the display. One I moved to a shaded area of the halide frag tank and one to a shaded area of the main display with T5s and LEDs.

After a few days the halide tank clam stayed shut for a couple days. I find it hard to believe it was getting too much light.

This is the most heartbreaking thing about this hobby, when you try to do everything right and still there is loss. I suspect it never was healthy as it came from the vendor with pests and never showed any growth ring. I will watch the other with my fingers crossed, but trying not to get my hopes up. What other hobby can you lose $500 overnight and keep going like nothing happened. Gambling?
