Hi all,
I've been in the hobby for about 2 years and currently I'm on my 2nd tank, a 40B downgrade from a 60g. I've only had the 40B since the start of this year, but the opportunity to upgrade to a 210g is too tempting to turn down!
I have a pretty good idea on what I want the tank to be, it'll be a mixed reef with the dimensions 72x24x24 with a 50x18x17 sump.
I am a young reefer and turned 18 this Monday. [emoji846] While I love this hobby, it is expensive for someone my age. I'm based in the UK and my budget is around £2000 ($2800). I am stumped on what sort of equipment I can use for this at a budget.
I need ideas on:
Lighting
Skimmer
Return Pump
Wave makers
I am ok with DIY and have a Dad who is also very good at it and willing to help.
The information I am most determined for is the plumbing of a sump. I have never used an under-cabinet sump before, so any information/tips would be very useful.
I will have a central internal overflow, will this be noisy? And is there anything I can do to quieten this?
Very unfortunately I do not have the capacity to have a QT set up. Is there anything I can do to prevent disease in my tank without QT and using only a small UV steriliser.
This will hopefully eventually become a build thread [emoji3]. Being as keen as I am, I have already dabbled with a stocking list of fish I've kept in the past, fish I am keeping, and fish that I've always wanted to keep. [emoji846]
So far..
2x Snowflake/Picasso Clowns
3x Dispar Anthias
3x Sandsifting Gobies
Longnose Hawkfish
Bicolour Angelfish
Potters Angelfish
Regal Angelfish
Algae Blenny
Longnose Butterfly
2x Schooling Bannerfish
Regal Tang
Naso Tang
Purple Tang
Tomini Tang
Chocolate Tang
Bluethroat Trigger
I would appreciate any responses on all of the above.
TIA! [emoji1]
