I'm setting up a 250g tank (300 total gallons) and have a couple questions regarding a heater. I've read various posts and have decided on Finnex titaniums. I've got an Apex controller and thought I would run it through that but I'm confused as to whether I still need the Finnex controller as well? And how many and what size heaters would you suggest getting? I like the idea of having more than one as an added precaution.

I use 2 300w heaters and the Finnex controller on 250 gallons. I have the controller set to 79 and the heaters set to 81 as a fail safe.

The apex will control the heaters. I run jager heaters, and love them. I would recommend 2 300 watt or a 300 and a 250. I generally setup my heaters to where one runs the tank unless it gets too cold and the other kicks on too. I also set the thermostat on my heaters to maintain temp of 82 at max by letting it run in a tank or container for a few days and checking temp. This keeps the thermostat in the heater from switching on and off wearing it out. This gives me a little more insurance the heater isn't going to nuke the tank.
