.25ppm nitrites coverts to ??ppm nitrates?

I have a friend with .25ppm nitrites in the tap water. I was wondering if anyone has some scientific break down stats of what .25ppm nitrites breaks down into ppm of nitrates.
Even if it is .50ppm to X amount of nitrates or if it is 1ppm to X amount of nitrates.

The reason I ask is, because I wanted to know how much said person is adding an end result of nitrates to the tank. Say if they did 2 water changes a week and they are adding a total of .25ppm nitrites each time and that breaks down of each time is to 20ppm. That's an automatic 40ppm nitrates before it even has a chance to break down the ammonia converting to nitrites to nitrates from the fish breathing, pooping, peeing, and what is fed.

I thought originally you were asking about kit interference. In that case, It depends on the kit specific design, but some are 100:1, so 0.25 ppm nitrite will falsely read as 25 ppm nitrate.

I would not use tap water. That said, the nitrate contribution if that nitrite is less than 0.5 ppm. Foods add way more each day.

@Randy Holmes-Farley, I am just looking for information on the conversion of .25ppm nitrites to X amount of nitrates. The person is using API Master test kit. This is not for a saltwater tank. Just an in general question of conversion.
Are you saying .25ppm would roughly be broken down to 25ppm nitrates?

Talk to a chemist and he said simply multiply by 1.2. So 0.25ppm nitrites x 1.2 = 0.30ppm nitrates

Are you asking about bacterial breakdown of nitrite?

The MW of nitrite is 46. The MW of nitrate is 62. So, 0.25 PPM of nitrite, if it were to all be converted into nitrate, would become 0.25 * 62 /46 = 0.34 PPM of nitrate. The conversion factor is 62/46, or 1.35 times.
