New member, long time hobbyist. Started 25 years ago.

Here is the latest. 270 peninsula mixed reef.
Octopus DC skimmer
V1 return pump
2- MP60's
Maxspect Gyre
2- Kessil AP700's (just switched from MH)
8- 5' T5's

120 long sump

The tank is 3 years old now and doing pretty well overall.

First, some photos of my previous 120. Then my initial motivation for the new 270.

Fantastic tank, wow.

What lighting type did you go with?

Aww nvm Kessil. How do you like them? The first tank was magnificent under the MH.

Thanks! I am pretty happy with the AP700's so far. Still in acclamation phase.

Can you post some pics of how your return pipes enter your tank? I was trying to figure out how to deal with the constraints of my tank and went searching on the internet and found your build on a very old website and it gave me a lot of inspiration for my current build. So happy to find it on R2R! Thanks

Tried the LED's for a few months and things quickly went downhill. Even in acclimation phase. I lost a lot of coral and have switched back to MH/T5. Lost quite a bit selling the AP700's too unfortunately. The tank is doing better now but still struggling. I may end up breaking it down and starting over but will give it another month or so to see if it bounces back.

I love this tank. Please keep going! If it does come to starting over, I hope you are able to get another system up and going quickly. Can you show some more photos of your sump and maybe some photos from the top of your tank. Looking to see how your returns enter your tank directly.

The algae is slowly dyeing down since I got rid of the LED's. The returns come down into the tank and the left and right of the far end opposite the overflow box. I have a Gyre in between the returns and 2- MP60's on the left and right of the overflow box about mid way down.

Perfect. That is what I wanted to see. How do you have the returns going into the tank itself? Are they attached to anything at the tank to reduce movement? I like the way the plumbing is anchored down in the canopy. very clean!

Yes, the tank is doing very well lately. Glad I switched back to MH/T5 and stocking up on Geisenmann megachrome 250W DE's for future replacements. Got a few new coral additions as well and just bought my son a 20 gallon red sea max AIO for Christmas.
