Seems as if someone decided to hitch a ride from the 220.

Water Change Wednesday.

Did a 5 gallon change today. I’ll be honest, it was challenging. Much different process than what I was doing on the 220.

The water change part was easy, siphoned 5 gallons out, poured 5 gallons in.

The challenge was the ATO. Not enough room for just pouring a bucket of RODI water into the ATO bucket so I tried a very small pump I had laying around. Not enough power to push the water through the tubing. I will have to get a larger harbor freight pump. As a solution, I just use a small Rubbermaid container to ‘cup’ the water into the ATO bucket.

Instead of using the freshwater RODI, I used salt mixed RODI to slowly increase the salinity to the right value.

I have only lost about 3.5 gallons of water since starting the tank. I’m guessing I’m losing about a gallon a week. This is pretty great compared to the 35 per week with my 220 setup.

Tank is on cruise control at the moment.

I skipped Water Change Wednesday. Might do bi-weekly water changes since I dont have any coral at the moment.

Cyano is winning at the moment and not sure if my techniques are doing much. Considering a black out for a few days.

I did add a Turbo and a few Nassarius snails. I need to add more.

Well, the battle of red cyano continues and have not had much success. Thought about going black out for a few days as I dont have any coral yet, not really a fan of using chemicals. Water changes, cleaning, increased flow and wet skimming all were just temporary fixes, the next day it was right back and thicker then previous it seemed.

I broke down and used the chemical route. I treated with ChemiClean a couple of days ago. I am still skimming, I increase water flow, and am gearing up to start small frequent water changes every other day. The water over the past 36 hours or so has turned cloudy and reddish. I brushed and turkey basted the rocks yesterday. Def is going away, and I hope the next week or so, I'm back on track.

I don't plan to do anymore treatments unless it comes back hot and heavy. I get, this is only a band aid. But if I can get rid of it to at least control it a bit easier, then I have accomplished my goal. If more treatments are necessary then I will address it as needed.

Thanks for following. Stay tuned for more updates.

Its Water Change Wednesday again. Looking forward to seeing some more clear water after 72 hours of ChemiClean treatment.

I have seen the cyano basically disappear with a red tint in the water column. I think the water change will make it look crystal clear again. I dont want to do any more treatments unless necessary. I'll skate this for a couple of weeks and see how it evolves.

I had some struggles in the beginning but this is about 11 months in. I only use filter floss and do 5 gallon water changes every week. Alkalinity and calcium were low the last time I tested the water so now I’m slowly dosing. Also Red Sea AB+ once a week.

Looking good.

With my past experience, I'm at the go slow, patient stage. I need to make things right before I add livestock.

Really thinking of selling of my AI Hydra 52 light and flipping it for a Steve LED upgrade.

I spy with my little eye a baby frog spawn (or at least that’s what I think).

Pretty wild how these things just spawn out of nowhere.

Bought a fish today. Been many years. Pretty exciting.

Neon Dottyback(Pseudochromis aldabraensis)

Waiting for it to get acclimated before I can snap a decent photo.

Didn’t quarantine but did to a quick freshwater dip and equalized the salinity and temperature before releasing.

I have some exciting news

Sold my AI Hydra 52 lights off my old 220. Next up? Steve’s LEDs upgrade.

This tank will start ramping up over the next several months and it’s very exciting. Stay tuned.
