Haha, I also can’t believe it myself! I got it when it was like 5“ 3 months ago and now it’s already 8“ to 9“ big just by feeding a small piece of raw shrimp once a week. :)
i got a 3" baby about 3 months ago, and it split after 4 weeks. ive now got 2 x 2", but they dont like something about my flow. small tentacles and big bubbles. would love for them to get comfortable and send out some long noodly appendages

awesome glow on that tank. impressive

how big is that blasto? looks to be 2-3"?

Thanks! And yeah, anemones can be finicky about the flow and light. You just have to find the right spot for them which takes time.

My Blasto is around 1.5”. It looks bigger than that in the picture because I took it up close.

i havent had much success planting an anemone. they always move. funnily enough, the daughter nem from the split moved to the exact location i put the mother in, before she wandered off, hunkered down, and split.

Wow I can’t imagine happening that to my anemone lol. It may be hard to believe what I’m going to say, but when I got my anemone, it never moved a single inch and it always stay in the spot that I picked!

@Gernader can we see a picture of the granite top stand / dresser maybe with the room lights on? Is it very heavy?
I am not currently home, but I will take a picture soon. I would say it’s a little bit heavy, but I have sliders at the bottom so I just push it to anywhere I want.

Hey guys! I’m finally starting my build thread for my 10 month old reef tank lol.

So, I have a 29g reef. I do around 15% water change weekly. (This tank is running without a sump, no skimmer, and no dosing.) I have a mix of softies, zoas, lps, and sps.

Setup:
  • Tank: 29g long
  • Sand: 20 pounds of white sand
  • Rock: 25 to 30 pounds of live rock
  • Lighting: Mars Aqua 165W running at 75% blues, 0% whites (stopped using whites recently)
  • Stand: A granite top dresser from a bedroom set (I know right, but it looks nice lol)
  • Filtration: Seachem Tidal 75 filled with ceramic bioballs, fine and coarse sponges, and Seachem matrix
  • Heater: 100W heater (Don’t remember the brand), I also got a backup heater which is from Eheim Jager
  • Flow: 2 of Hydor Koralia Nano 565gph (total gph: 1,130gph)
  • Lid: White eggcrate piece
Livestock: (need some recommendations!)

  • 1 Ocellaris Clown (used to have 2, but removed 1 due to insane aggression whenever I have blue lights on, that was a surprise!)
  • Ruby Longfin Fairy Wrasse
  • Cleaner shrimp
  • Blood Fire Shrimp
  • Nassarius, ceriths, trochus, bubblebee snails
  • 1 Emerald crab
  • Sherman Rose Bubble Tip Anemone
Corals:

  • Leather Toadstool
  • Tree Coral
  • Pacific Ricordia Mushroom
  • 2 frags of Green Star Polyps
  • Xenia
  • WWC Purple Monsters zoas
  • Green Flowerpot
  • Hollywood Stunner Chalice
  • Pandora zoas
  • Venus Flytrap palythoas
  • Green Hammer
  • Alveopora
  • TSA Bam Bam zoas
  • Candy Cane
  • TSA Magma Flow Echinata
  • Hairy Mushroom
  • Pocillopora sps
  • Montipora Digitata sps
  • Unknown Orange zoas
  • Nirvana zoas
  • Nightmares zoas
  • Green/red Blastomussa
  • Armor of God zoas
  • WWC Eagle Eye zoas
  • WWC Sweet Tooth zoas
  • WWC Scrambled Eggs zoas
  • WWC Space Queens zoas
  • WWC Fruit Loops zoas
  • Rasta zoas
  • Rainbow Incinerators zoas
I think I listed everything...

Feel free to ask questions or comments about anything and I would also like some recommendations for livestock.

PICS ARE COMING SOON!! :D

Thank you for posting this! I am just now starting out with a 29 gallon so this is an inspiration! I can't decide whether to get one or two clowns. Did you buy a reverse osmosis RO/DI system and what kind? Also, how do you handle your backup heater and power supply?

Glad to hear that I’m inspiring you! You should get two clowns, I don’t have two because I took one out since it always get aggressive whenever I have blue lights on!

For RO/DI, I’m using the RO drinking system like the one you get for a house. Then, I added a DI canister from BRS to make the TDS low.

I do not have a backup heater in the tank, but I do have an extra heater in storage just in case if the heater from the DT goes out. I’m currently using a power surge protector to protect my equipment.

So, can you elaborate why you recommend two clowns especially since you have had both a pair and now a single one. And did you purchase a BRS unit to start with?

I always want to have a clownfish pair because they are much more active if one other clownfish is present. No, I did not get the rodi from BRS. I got a rodi system in my local area.

Update: So, I visited @WWC Superstore and it was amazing! Their lagoon tank looks so beautiful and there were so many corals to choose. I took some pics! I got a captive bred Banggai cardinal, a rock flower anemone, and snails!

Glad to say that the Banggai cardinal is eating well! I had a Banggai cardinal before from a different store and sadly, it passed away from not eating anything.

Well, I got a 75 gallon tank with stand and sump in total of 105 gallons...

I’m planning to transfer everything from my 29g to 75g and keep 29g just in case if I need to quarantine or something.

I bought a return pump, lights, a skimmer and a heater. Now, I need to find new sand and figure out how to mount black boxes on top of my tank (I am thinking of using large L shaped brackets on the wall and hang the lights on them).

I finished the plumbing, but I need to go out to get cement to bond some of the pipes.

I also did aquascaping and I think I like it. I might add more rocks at the middle.

Let me know what you think.

I just noticed I got some dinoflagellates in a 1 week old tank... So I’m starting to feed more often, added nitrifying bacteria, and do a blackout for 2 days. Hopefully, I can beat it!

Forgot to mention that I added an extra powerhead for more flow. Now, my tank got over 3,000GPH of flow which is about 41x turnover.

Everything is going well except I see small spots of Dinos around the rocks! Honestly, I should add way more corals since it looks empty lol. I am also adding more fish in my tank by next month (they are currently in quarantine now). Now, let’s see some pics!! ;)
