Hey guys I just update my lighting on my 29g biocube. I took out the pc bulbs and added Full spectrum leds. I wanted to keep my hood so I took everything out the wires, lighting cut the top off added velcro to hold it in place. I kept the clear plastic cover underneath the hood. So the led won't get wet. What do you guys think? Now I can really start adding corals to my tank!!

I am sure much more light now than with the stock. I have the coralife version 29 biocube and installed the rapidled retro kit on mine a couple of months ago.

I think it was a great idea I did something Similar.
I put an Ai sol in my 29 biocube you can't really tell from the outside it fit really well after taking the optics and bottom plastic off of it

Not the best picture but the light works really well even without the optics I run it at our 50% and the spread is way better then with optics

I used a drimel to make more functional vents and bolted it to the hood (two silver bolts in pic) front vent pulls air in and back two vent it out

Very nice job keithcorals I tried doing the same thing but my led fixture was too big. I would need to cut the screw fitting for the clear plastic that's under the hood

this is the way i am planning to do my lighting upgrade. nice job exact info. i have been searching for thx. The velcro sounds like a great attachment. In SO many ways i can see the benifit to using that instead of silicone. hows it workn out, do you have any heat to water transfer probs.? thx again for posting these pics

I checked out if there were any moisture developing inside the clear plastic and the led lights and I saw 2 or 3 small dots out water and salt. So I place 2 black wooden blocks in between the leds to get air flowing through their. It still looks very nice I will post the picture up tonight wen I get home. I added velcro on the blocks to the leds to it still holds it in place.

thx. for the pics. this should keep the moisture from building in the led's as well as allow for a bit of cooling (and that was my concern )-best to you poelancoeddie.

If you took the black box off your light there is a very thin heatsink inside it would have fit inside the hood without cutting out the top. Also if there is moisture inside the good the gasket the seals it may not be in it's place well I've had it happen with mine but it is very dry inside my hood now.
