So here is the start of my new 300 total gallon build. I have been in the hobby for roughly 3 years with this 90 gallon tank

However now it's time to upgrade and learn from my mistakes from the last tank and do everything the right this time.

So here is the start of the project and space I had to work with
IMG_1477931425.409401.jpg
this is in the basement and a spare room we had that was used strictly for storage and a bar I 3/4 finished that took up way to much room.

So I started my demolition
IMG_1477932113.551353.jpg
I took that wall out and ripped up all the carpet

Had a little help from the wife and little guy

So after I got rid of all that it was time to put some new floor as carpet and a fish tank don't usually go well together. We went to a local flooring store and found an end roll piece 12'x17' for $200 bucks and bought some new baseboard for around $100

We had some left over paint and painted the back walls.
Unfortunately the basement was done extremely cheap (before I bought the place) and The walls were done with some ugly butt panels which I will one day redo with drywall but in the meantime this is how it's going to stay.
This is how the basement looks as of October 31,2016

The tank will be here Tuesday evening November 1st I'm super excited and can't wait.

In the meantime I came up with a plan for a floating canopy that I will be putting on a pulley system so I can raise and lower the canopy when I need to work on the tank. I really hope it turns out how I have it planned in my head.

Anyway there is the start of my build thread looking forward to see how this is going to turn out and thanks for following along. Pictures will be updated once tank arrives tomorrow. Thanks all

Looking forward to seeing the progress. Where in Canada do you live? I am in Ottawa and there are a number of other canucks hanging around here.

The tentacles on your anemone are insane! I also love the picture of your cat in the middle of it all. Even better is that it's a family affair. This will be an epic build and you're off to a great start. Best of luck. I'll be following for sure.

That anemone was even bigger before then he ate my butterfly fish so I split him and that's what he is back to again in only a couple months

It has arrived!!! Needs a really good cleaning but the tank and sump are here... I personally don't mind that it needs a little loving can take some more pride when it's fully done.

5/8 star fire glass with euro bracing
220 gallon display with bean animal overflow
80 gallon sump
I'll take some more pictures tomorrow once she is all cleaned up. Tomorrows task is plumbing!!
