Hey guys! I recently started up my first ever saltwater tank, after a few months of researching, cycling, etc etc.

Well, I set it up, and it doesn't look amazing- but I didn't expect it to. Good aquascaping is hard, and I just haven't gotten there quite yet.

When it starts looking better, I'll post a picture of the whole tank. Until then, Here are some of the inhabitants:
Firstly, the fish:

A pair of ocellaris clownfish, a yellow clown goby, and a scooter blenny.
For corals, I Have some Acans, GSP, a trumpet, some Kenya tree, a mushroom, a toadstool, a Duncan, a blasto, a Xenia, a devils hand, and some hairy mushrooms. Here are some pics:

I’m working on my first tank build too. I don’t expect to get anything how I really want it until I get more experience. Don’t be shy! You never know who will be able to help you or give you good pointers. Following along to see how things progress!

Post a FTS. Never be ashamed of your tank!!! I'm excited to see it!

Here you go! I pretty much have only frags except for that huge kenya that I got from a guy who was breaking down his tank and the xenia that we all know grows like a weed.
Also sorry for the not so great picture, I try to keep some film algae on the sides of the tank since I notice that copepods love it and I like to keep some snacks for my scooter blenny :p Also my acans are eating some mysis shrimp so that's what that white stuff is

Thanks for this! I'll try to keep this as updated as I can!

This is a great image!

The tank is coming along nicely. Stay patient and remember to let it mature between additions.

Your scooter Blenny is really cute. Would you mind posting more pics?

(With an appearance from my splitting hairy mushroom)
BTW, my acans love nutramar ova.
I'll be sure to check it out- I'm sure my scooter blenny will love it too, I heard that they love roe.

And here's an extra picture of my clown goby, even though it doesn't love coming out much at the moment.

Looks great! Lots of biocube resources here for sure, I started with one a year ago.

Good luck!

Thank you! Your biocube looks fantastic! I hope to upgrade my lighting soon so I can start thinking about some SPS...

Looks good to me and thanks for sharing the pictures

And welcome to R2R as well!

Thank you!!! It really means a lot :)

Been a while since I updated this- so here’s what happened since my last post.

I freaked out about what I thought was a flatworm and freshwater dipped my Duncan, and it was too much for it and it died. However, I kept the skeleton in the tank and it looks like 2 new polyps are growing so hopefully I’ll have my Duncan back :)

Also, on October 6th, there was an event called Fragtoberfest in Connecticut and I got a ton of corals there:
My Fungia

My torch

My Dendro

My Joker’s Revenge Blastos (They’ve opened up much more since this pic was taken)

My birdsnest (my birdsnest and Monti were both affected when the head of my return pump fell off so some of their tissue got blasted off :( )

I also got a small emerald crab:

And my hermit crab moved into an empty sundial snail shell, which makes me panic every time I look at it:

All my other corals are doing great as well, and I even think my other blastos (not the one above) is growing another head. It’s about time too because that one head is a little bigger than the diameter of a golf ball!

HUGE update on the tank:

I'll let this photo speak for itself:
IMG_9948.jpg

Ok, lots to get into. Let's meet the inhabitants:
Starting with my Green BTA. Classic, but I love it. When I bought it, it had really amazing bubbles but it decided to become stringier in my tank. However, ever since I installed a wave pump, it started to regain some of its bubbles.
IMG_9940.jpg

Next up, we have my Cynarina. I just fed it here, so it's a little closed up, but it's usually about double that size. I got it for $40 at the CTARS Fragtoberfest. One of my all-time fave corals.
IMG_9950.jpg

Next is my Cyphastrea and Acan Echinata. I got both of these (and a few more corals) from a live sale by Unique Corals- They're near the back, so the camera doesn't do them justice. They look more like the Unique Corals photos in person (which is rare!)

IMG_9951.jpg

I also have some clove polyps, which I got from WWC a while back. Not an outstanding amount of growth, but that's expected from (most) clove polyps.
IMG_9955.jpg

Now a red rhodactis mushroom I bought from Aquatic Wildlife Company in South Windsor.

IMG_9957.jpg

Right next to it is a purple Lobo I got at Fragtoberfest, which my hermit crabs picked apart until I decided to ditch the hermit crabs. Here it is about to devour a pellet:

From the UC live sale, I picked up a Mycedium Chalice coral:

My 3-headed (plus one baby head) Dendro coral, which is another personal favorite), which I photographed previously in the thread. It's come a long way:

IMG_9964.jpg

A rock flower anemone I just picked up from Wet Pets in Vernon, which happens to be torturing a devil's hand I got ages ago that hasn't grown much:

IMG_9966.jpg

An acanthophyllia I got from the UC live sale:

A Cycloseris I got from the UC live sale:

IMG_9970.jpg

A kenya tree:

IMG_9972.jpg

A Turbinaria I got from the UC live sale:

IMG_9975.jpg

A duncan that I got from Aquatic Wildlife:

IMG_9977.jpg

A baby fungia I scored for $5 at Fragtoberfest

IMG_9978.jpg

A Red/purpleish and green micromussa:

IMG_9981.jpg

A glorious xenia forest, which I've had for a while:
IMG_9984.jpg

Some anthelias that I picked up from Wet Pets:
IMG_9983.jpg

And finally, some GSPs:
IMG_9982.jpg

Whew! I think I'm all set for livestock, and I can't wait until some of these guys start growing more and start to fill in some of the open water :)
