Well, the tank is doing good. Everything has been going some what to plan. But unfortunately, the tank may be coming down. I’m honestly up in the air about it. I love the tank, love having it. But, life’s been kicking me in the butt every which way I look.

Why not let it go on cruise control. With your remote travel concrete work I can imagine it’s hard. Then when your back home spend time with family and just do the minimal.

Spring is here tomorrow so just get out and enjoy the outdoors, the tank will still be there. And your probably ready to start planning the new landscape around your yard.

The tank probably won’t go anywhere, I’m just mentally exhausted

Update, all fish died except a 5 in the past 48 hours, I suspect Velvet, or flukes. From where? I’m suspicious of the caulerpa macro algae and snails. But, can’t be exactly sure as nothing has been added for atleast 6 weeks.

so that means I’ve officially lost:
Yellow eye kole tang
Powder blue tang
Emperor angel
Chocolate tang
5 bangaii cardinals
1 clown fish
3 different wrasse.

I still have 3 yellow tangs, my naso, and hippo tang. My wife , best friend, and father in law, tore my tank down to just sand to catch them all. And moved all the corals to the frag tank.

from here forwards, I don’t know what the plan is. Do I regret going as tall of a tank as I did? Kind of, 24-26 would of been a lot more manageable.
Do I regret not quarantining absolutely every? You bet I do.

my wife says no more fish , just the 5 we have. And nothing else. But, a fish tank, isn’t a fish tank with out the fish. So I’m torn. Do I shut it down? Sell everything off? Or do I keep going...

The way the industry, especially locally is going, you cannot buy a fish that isn’t sick with something. I don’t know if I want to take this heart ache every time. I also know, I don’t want to put my wife threw catching them all if something were to ever happen again.

going forward, what can I do? I have the resources to QT everything (I have dozens of tanks). But is it honestly realistic?

Sorry to hear this and being the second time it’s happened to you as well. I haven’t bought fish for a very long time as well so don’t know what the market is like right now.

I think your wife feels that way due to the work she had to do while your away. She might have a change of heart over time.

You just spent so much time building your dream tank. Don’t give up now. I hope you don’t quit. Leave things as is for this year and see about winter. Even if it means just your frag tank.

Summer is a good time to stock as people are not interested in their tanks anymore. So they shutdown and sell all live stock.

Every store in Calgary, you need to QT everything and anything now. That’s where I messed up, I didn’t QT some macro algae.

I’m down to 1 fish left , a yellow tang. It’s just a horrible feeling losing that many fish in a matter of days. I was talking to humble fish, and it looks like (from the videos I have) , I had the perfect storm for a disaster. He assumes it was velvet, along with flukes, and a secondary infection.

I’m torn if I want to keep going. I’m also exhausted, as I just worked 14 night shifts in a row, so it’s a lot emotionally and mentally .

Hey RJKain,
Perhaps it is time to step back and rethink things to do it better. I would if it happened to me. I would not let this set back stop you from enjoying what gives you happiness and a get away escape from this world, which could be nasty at times.
Don't do the same thing again that causes you this grief, like maybe NOT buying stuff from the places you were and try new places or maybe get it sent from USA sellers if that is possible.
If I had extra fish, I would send you one or maybe a frag or two, if this is allowed between USA and Canada. I am sure you have friends here at R2R that would do the same....
Good Karma brings good Karma...
Have a good night.

Wow that sucks to hear. I did my 300g back in 2019 after downgrading. I told myself I would be qurantining everything from fish, corals, to inverts. That's the only way to have an ich/parasite free tank. I can tell you it was well worth it. Have not lost a fish to disease since. I did TTM with all of my fish including prazipro with some. It has worked great. If I could do it, you can. But I agree it's harder these days to find the specific fish you want and prices have shot up. Good luck whatever you plan on doing.

Everything is starting to look pretty good now, all the corals are looking awesome.
Currently in the process of starting a small side business with the hobby, and looking for a whole saler. Going to be importing and Quarantining fish , since no one locally does it.

Looking good. If you order from RVS world I would love to join in with you. They just need a business license for the stock list. But since they are in the Philippines the flight costs will be high.
