Well, after having my fluval 13.5 up and running for several months I caught the itch and did what my wife said I couldn't do when I got that tank, buy a big one. So over the weekend a 48X24X36 180G tank found its way to my house. I havnt had a chance to do much with it yet other than get it wrestled in to my basement, lose a few friends over suckering them in to helping me and realizing I have a lot of work ahead of me. next will be working on getting a sump built and plumbing everything. I will update as I make more progress!

Wow.

How much vertical clearance from tank rim to the ceiling?
I ran the same footprint with a 30” deep display and it was too deep for me to do bottom maintenance. After several years of fighting with it, I replaced the 150G tank with a 120G tank at 24” deep.

I had replied to you on another thread about this, but in short, not enough to be convenient. I am looking in to remedies for that as well as going to make use of the fact that I'm 6'4" and have a long wingspan!

In short, a 3’ deep tank is difficult to perform bottom maintenance. After 53 years of Reefing, I have learned to keep things simple and reduce maintenance chores, when life gets busy. Meaning, if it’s difficult to perform it’s easy to get out of the habit of performing.

What an unusual tank.

Though I tend to agree with the above, that 36 deep is difficult to work with, it is what you have...
Do solve the problem of being able to get in there. Maybe a very short stand with a remote sump?

My tank is 30 inches deep with a width of 36 inches. I mention this because I am 6'2 and still cannot reach the back bottom of the middle of the tank without completely laying on top of it.
