4 clowns in one tank?!?!

Morning everyone!!

Has anyone successfully kept more than 2 CAPTIVE BREAD clowns in their bigger tanks? 80 gal +

I have a pair in my nano tank that are still pretty small, I was thinking of adding another pair to my new 80gal tank then moving the two from the nano over in time.

It is possible, but many will not recommend it. Clowns are wired for dominance so aggression can be expected. If it isn't working out well then it can be hard to catch the bullied fish out of an 80g reef.

I have seen people do this, even in a smaller tank. Still deciding if its worth trying. as you say trying to catch that fish if something goes wrong would be a challenge. I do know that its not advised, but I have seen some success stories.

Here are my four. The female is in the background. They don’t show any real aggression, but the guy who owned them before I did (they came with the tank) said he had tried to add two more (black storms) to the tank and the female killed them both within 24 hours. So yes, I would be prepared to remove a fish if necessary. Also, you may end up with more than one female if you have two pairs separated initially and then try to put them together?

im not sure that the best approach would be, my current pair has already established their roles

It's probably not a good idea to try it. Theoretically it might be possible if you got very, very lucky with temperment of all the individual fish, but you're much more likely to wind up with fish being bullied and killed. I would also worry about them stressing each other out, even if they don't outright fight.

Don't even try it.

If you really want a bunch of clownfish, you could look into purchasing some very young ones, as there seems to be a possibility for success in keeping a batch of clownfish that have been raised together.

I lean more towards the "add them all together or don't". I'd leave the two alone in the nano, then purchase 4-5 for the 80g. That's my two cents. Good luck!

I have a pair of Maroon tomato clownfish hosting a huge RBTA. I recently add 4 Misbar Juvenile to host a Ritter Anemone. Within a day 1 of Misbar wonders away from the anemone because being bullied by the 3 other Misbar ( have to be remove) . At far at the Maroon clownfish they haven’t notice these newbies because they are about 7 feet apart. Each anemone is on the opposite side of a 8 feet tank. So I hope they stay that way
