Ok well so far I had built the stand but had to chisel some grooves for the trim in the 20 gallon sump to clear. Now time for paint I think I’m going to leave it open

Looks good! Are you going to leave the sides open or are you going to add a a skin? Also, I'm curious if you have decided on an overflow for the 40B? Keep up the good work!

I was going to leave the sides open for now ,still on the fence lol. As far as an overflow I was going to go with the eshops medium overflow and a 3/4 return. For the return drill bit the size I should buy should be 3/4 as well?

The drill bit and template should come with the Eschopps overflow kit.

yes with the overflow kit but with the return I would have to get a bit

Unless you use some type of return kit like this one from BRS:

I put the eshopps eclipse Medium overflow on my 40 breeder and i love it! Make sure you put the template on the inside and drill from the inside of the tank bc your water level will be higher than if you drill the outside.

Did you use a gate valve or a ball valve on your drain?

GATE VALVE! It took a few days for me to tune it right but its dead silent now. The only noise it makes is when water falls into the part of the overflow thats inside the tank. But its not that bad.

if u go with the Eshopps, you can put a sheet of acrylic or hdpe on the grates to raise the water level so it is hidden by the rim. I did this but then the water falling in the inside weir was loud so I use a piece of matala mat to silence it.
