What do you attribute your success to? Do you think its the macro thats pulling the nutrients out or your dsb?

Great tank
My first tank about 30 years ago I used a dsb. At that time I only had fish and was afraid to put in coral. Went from tropical to cichlid to marine fish. I am starting what I think will be my last tank and will be trying Algae Turf Scrubber for nitrate nd phosphate. removal and hopefully minimal to no water changes. Keep up the posts.

Yes. I have doing this so long that is exactly what I was talking about and did. Back then this was the original Julian Spunk way with the "plenum" under the gravel. I think the long term problem with that system is eventually there will be too much crap trapped in there and you will have to open it up to clean. Also you can't stir the sand bed to clean because if you let air down there the anaerobic bacteria will suffer.

Good luck. Really keep posting.

Thanks.
