I have been looking at purchasing an 8' x 4' x 2' glass aquarium...500g. Question is, what should glass thickness be ?? It has aluminum bracing and all that is good and solid, but what should a good thickness be ?? The glass on this tank is 5/8"

PLease help before I buy

With metal bracing 5/8 isn't that bad.
Who is the maker or what brand tank it is?

Custom made tank made by Custom Aquariums in Neenah, WI

Thicker glass is always better but this is done for a reason.
Is this tank currently running or sitting empty?
And if empty how long it been sitting empty?

It had been running up until a couple months ago....tank is maybe a year old
And I know going with a size tank like that, thicker glass is always better....therefore the reason why I posed this question...for help and advice and opinions...LOL

It has metal bracing which will help a lot.
I'm more worried now that it has been sitting dry.
The silicone might have gone dry on the inside seams and a re-silicone job would be a bad idea.
How much they want for the tank if I may ask?

Ok you should be good.
Can you ask some close up shots from the silicon?
Checking for lose seams and air bubbles.
Don't get me wrong but we talking here 500 holland if a seams burst.
Not much stuff in your house would be save for the first 2 to 3 inches of the floor.

I don't know what to do with that but as it European it must be good.
$1500 is a lot of money for a used tank but 500 gallon custom must be nice.

The market for used 500 gallon aquariums with questionable gas's thickness isn't that big, don't pay $1500 for it.
