Hey everyone,
I am outgrowing my current 33Gal SPS tank. build thread
I have been discussing this with my partner and she has approved of a new build with the compromise that it cannot be higher then my current build (165-170cm high) as it would block a window.

This is already a victory in itself! So I accepted the challenge and started planning this SPS build!

The focus of the tank will be acropora + some larger reefsafe fish (coming from a 33g every fish seems large) to create a shallow/top of the reef like environment with heavy flow

The Build concept:
1788182406510.png

  • 180cm x 70cm x 60cm (WxDxH) Custom build aquarium - 756 liters or about 200 gallons
  • External overflow
  • Eurobraced
  • Max height including light fixture: 165cm with about 5cm of extra play
  • Aluminium Tslot profile stand - 85-90cm height
  • Glass sump - 140cm x 50cm x 30cm -> layout TBD
  • Low profile raisable light fixture canopy (no fixtures hanging from the ceiling)
The Gear shortlist:
  • Flow: 2x Tunze Orca 6105 - I can always upgrade to 24v if this is not enough
  • Light: TBD -> only have 15-20cm above the water, I need a low profile fixture with excellent spred, par output and nice blending
    • Option 1: 6x Orphek OR4 150cm bars
    • Option2 : 3x ATI Straton x
  • Return pump: 2x Jeboa MPD10000 - redundant return pumps
  • UV: 1x Deltec 80W unit
  • Skimmer: TBD
Transfered gear from my old tank:
  • Neptune apex controller
  • Tunze osmolator
  • reefdose 4
  • ecoflow delta 2 -> power backup
Working on the concept at the moment, the goal here is to get the tank wet before spring 2027

The first challenge now is what light fixtures to choose.
Really like the straton x. I saw it at vivarium last year and it was impressive.
Nevertheless i am conflicted cause of the low mounting height my setup requires.
A T5 like bar would work well in that scenario hence the orphek or4 bars is also a prime candidate. With 6 I could blanket the entire tank.

Both these options will have no issue growing acropora looking at par and spectrum output.

Always open to other options!
