So we are 2 1/2 weeks into cycling using TLC Smart Start complete, and yes I read more posts last night on old/new school cycling, and some very long posts on whether this stuff works or not, I think I'll just wait it out longer and see. Anyway this the list I've come up with, any input greatly appreciated.

55 Gallon Fish list

2 Pajama Cardinals
2 Black Ice Snowflake clowns
1 Royal Gramma
1 Goby/shrimp pair
1 Eibl's Angel
1 Blue Sided Fairy Wrasse

Corals, cleanup crew

Good looking list with the only concern being potentially the angelfish and corals. I'd suggest an algae eater too like a lawnmower blenny just to keep the pest algae under control.

Just a heads up, many of the larger Escenius such as bicolor, midas, lineatus aren’t always coral safe and may nip at some species such as acropora. The Angel may go for fleshy LPS - In the wild many angels will eat sponges which grow on the coral bases and they could potentially confuse coral that they grow on for the actual sponges.

Also, I would change the fairy as the blue sided fairies get large and I’d go for Atleast a 4’ tank with one of them at the minimum. The rest are alright however try add the shrimp/goby pair first as they’ll be the most docile.

The carpenters flasher is another id wait for a 4’ tank to have one. This is due to in small tanks they run into things and when they display they really go wild.

Few more fish than I would be comfortable with. I guess it will come down to how much rock work you have. Each fish needs their own individual hiding / sleeping place. Even with 8 fish in a 90g with a bunch of rock work I still have minor aggression in my tank. Take it slowly if adding that many fish, while adding the potentially aggressive fish last. Make sure to have an acclimation box handy for just in case. Wait until ugly phase is over with (6+ months) before adding the nem. Even then it's a crap shoot on whether it will host the clowns or not.

I love the way purple tilefish look, but I already have a black cap basslet and don't want two purple fish :grinning-face-with-sweat: Might be a good fish for a 55 though.. basslets are fun as well for that matter

If you skip the clowns you might avoid many of the territorial fights you may get with a mated pair. I'm for your original list, minus the clowns.

I still haven't seen my dwarf angels go after any of my coral aside from pecking at pests in the polyps. The only fish that I've had (and still have) that I've seen eat my corals are my spotband butterfly (which is still in a tank overgrown with softies) and a matted filefish. I'd go with a multicolor over an Eibli angel, though. I have one, and they're gorgeous fish.

Don't think the wife would be to happy if there was not two clowns of some kind and an Aneome. I think I'm going with the Eibli, if way down the road it's to big I'll worry about that then.
