Hi, I have a 60 gallon cube currently and a 55 gallon tank that I plan on using for a sump. I’d like some recommendations on how you would set it up. I have six pieces of 12 x 12 acrylic sheets that I want to use to separate areas . I also have 12 x 12 egg crates if we wanna use that for anything. I have a protein skimmer, and I’ll be having a Iwaki Pump, since I plan on keeping my sump in the basement and my tank on the floor above. I do plan on possibly upgrading to a 90 gallon in the future.

Anyways, I plan on having a protein skimmer, the heater, and hopefully some probes in the sump, as well as an auto top off and doing all water changes from there.

Also, I’m doing all the plumbing myself. I have a utility sink right next to where I plan on having the sump, so I’d also like some recommendations on maybe how to set up the auto top off as well as where to keep the 32 gallon trashcans full of salt water and RODI water.

Thank you in advance!

simple is best in my experience for sumps! The most important is to have the return chamber sealed well for accurate auto top-off. Otherwise, my recommendation is as few chambers as possible to maximize open/working space. Here is some footage of how I set up my super simple DIY frag tank sump in case it helps.
