I have a 55 gallon tank with a sump that I estimate holds 30 gallons. I am looking to add more fish and would like your recommendations / thoughts on what im planning. I currently have a few fish which are listed below. A CUC of nassarius/turbo/astrea snails, blue leg hermits and sand sifting stars. There is also various LPS and softie coral.

I currently have:
-Pair of clowns
-Kole Tang
-Cleaner Goby

I would like:
-Firefish (how many could I get?)
-Green Mandarin (working on building pod population right now)
-Diamond Watchman (good or bad?)

Please let me know your thoughts on this selection. Or if I should rethink want list / can add to this. Thank you!

I would just stick with just one fire fish but you could possibly get away with two.

As for the diamond goby, If your not worried about sand being blown everywhere in your tank then go for it.

Other than that everything is fine.

I had some Firefish in my 45 gallon when i lived in Florida. I think you could get away with two!
And like the other person said, Diamond Gobies fly sand all over your tank! (which is pretty cool)

Thank you! I am apprehensive of the diamond goby. I don't know if I want to risk one that would be a menace and I definitely don't want to attempt to remove it from the tank if need be.

Your selection isn’t bad, but I don’t like the mandarin. No matter what people say, you won’t sustain copepods long enough. Couple that with a diamond goby also eating them and sand sifting starS also eating them. You have way too much competition.

I’ve successfully kept one sand sifter in a tank this size. My diamond gobies haven’t done well. I think it’s because of the size of the tank and they get harassed by clowns and others.

Maybe consider a six line wrasse and or a clown wrasse. Both are cool and have done well in my 60g.

Remember sump volume is helpful in calculating parameter control but worthless in offering more territory

Make sure you have a lid for the diamond, mine jumped on me. Found him a week later behind DT
