My tank just cycled. I have my two clowns in and a cleanup crew. Down the road I’m thinking about adding these guys. I’m looking for color and fish that occupy different areas. I know I have to take my time, but would appreciate any recommendations.

Ocellaris Clownfish ×2 (in)
Royal Gramma
Tailspot Blenny
Yellow Watchman Goby paired with Pistol shrimp
Firefish
Azure Damselfish
Pink-Streaked Wrasse
Flasher Wrasse
Mandarin Dragonet

Love my flame angle. Great color and model citizen!

If you want some yellow, the one spot fox face is also nice looking and works in the algae.

A couple comments I hope will help:

Tailspots are a lot of people's favorite fish, they have big personalities 🙂

With the wrasses and other fish, it may be very difficult to establish a strong self-sustaining population of copepods that a Mandarin typically needs to do well. You may find that you have to add copepods for a Mandarin frequently, possibly weekly. Another option would be to purchase a captive raised fish from Biota, their Mandarins will eat prepared foods like frozen, so they are much easier to keep and feed than wild caught fish.

Good luck with your tank!

Awesome thanks. Flame angel can be an issue with coral though? Beautiful fish though - will add it to my list. Would love a fox face but I think my tank is too small. Only 4 feet across. Definitely agree on getting a mandarin that eats frozen. Thanks for all the advice.

Flame is “reef safe with caution” but to me it’s the fish I always wanted so I took the chance and no issues.

I have 4ft tank as well and got the fox face when he was small. He seems more than content and I have a negative space scape so he has lots of swimming space in front and back of rock. If he gets too big in the future then I will figure it out….

Cool list.

I have a 36 inch 75 gallon that I’m currently stocking. I likely finished cycling about a month before you. My planned list is similar (2 Ocellaris clownfish, Neon goby, Chalk bass, Royal gramma, Yellow watchman goby and Tiger pistol shrimp, Midas blenny, McCosker’s flasher wrasses, Red-headed Solon fairy wrasse, Flame angelfish, and, eventually a captive bred Male Mandarin).

I added the chalk bass early with a pair of clowns. He’s been super interesting. Always darting in and out of caves and changing color to match my live rock. Worth consideration.
