Making your own tank?

No, I actually picked it up from someone getting out of the hobby, addiction or however you look at it. I started a 32 BioCube in December and I have come to realize there is a ton to learn in the hobby and look forward to getting the 57 up and running.

You are certainly right about there being a lot to learn. I've been in the hobby nearly 20 years and I'm still learning. New things keep happening in the hobby all the time, new products, new techniques, new chemistries, new philosophies... it never ends.

Don't be shy, ask questions. Heck, it took me nearly 2 years to come to grips with the water chemistry issues!

Finally up and running!

Finally getting around to post what I have for pictures during the build. DIY 2x4 stand, with removable front center support and birch plywood top. White washed bottom and polyurethaned top. 40 gallon sump with DIY compartments. You will tend to notice in the thread DIY is common. Maybe that is why it took so long to actually post.

Return flow for two filter socks then overflow to carbon and phosguard.

DIY algae scrubber being supplied by sicce pump, retuning water back to the sump through a DIY UV submersible 12w light (last picture), providing flow and surface agitation in the sump. Air stones placed in the bottom of the sump and 1 in the algae scrubber being supplied air from a BRS CO2 scrubber. I ran separate lines for each stone and swap the supply from the CO2 scrubber when not running the algae scrubber. Definitely helped in raising PH.

Current system return 1900 gph pump. Ink bird temperature control with 300 watt BRS heater and 2 fans cooling the sump area as needed. CO2 scrubber hanging on the right and air supply pump on the lower right.

I went with the loop control system for the lights and pumps. I have two 36” current led lights hanging from 2 standard current light mounts. For flow I have one current 2150 providing flow and surface agitation and 1 MP10 for now near the bottom of the tank.

I consider this tank my middle step to building a 180 or 200 peninsula tank. I started a BioCube 32 in January 2020, then started this build March to April time frame to raise my fish from little guys and gals. My goal is to have 6 foot tank by the end of next year. With that being said all the inhabitants except the bicolor angel will go to the 6 footer mixed reef with softies and lps.
