SR Aquaristik Rimless 42 gallon

Start of a new tank and new build thread after moving to a new state and taking 2 years away from the hobby.

The new tank is a 42 gallon SR Aquaristik rimless tank that was drilled with an eshopps overflow. The dimensions of the tank are about 40” wide x 16” tall and deep. I went with this tank because it has to go in an entryway and I wanted to get the largest size possible that would fit comfortably without blocking the walkway. I couldn’t go bigger than 40” wide and 16” deep, so this tank fits perfectly without going down the custom aquarium route.

If you happen to be in the Chicago area, SR Aquaristik is definitely worth a visit. They focus more of planted tanks and freshwater, but also have a nice saltwater selection in the store.

-Lighting is a Kessil ap9x. I’m running it at 30% max and the spread lights up the whole tank great. I may add some t5s later to get the shimmer from the Kessil and blue pop from t5s.
-Skimmer is a Tunze 9410dc

Vision is to have it be an sps dominated tank

I can’t post in the market yet because I had to switch to this new account.

If anyone knows someone in the Chicago area that wants either:

- Bubble magus mini q hang on skimmer
- Sicce shark skimmer 150

Both work great and were used less than a year on my mini hobby tank before I upgraded to the current tank. I ran both on the tank for a bit to see which one worked better.

I thought I recognized that name! We’ve never talked or anything but I owe you one. The part in your Red Sea build with the black slugs, I unfortunately got them as well. I had heard they were basically tank reboot worthy and unbeatable. I had acro frags dropping left and right. But to my surprise I followed your exact pattern with the melafix and flatworm stop I just added a second dip in coral rx after the melafix and it cleared those puppies out. after about 6-8 weeks I finally beat them similar to you going on 5 months now with no signs of them. So I must say thank you!!

Prototype version 1 looks pretty good for first timer carpentry DIY. I think it looks a little bulky though compared to the minimalist look of the tank. May try to make another version that’s a little slimmer.
