65 gallon halide lighting

Hey all I'm fairly new to the site and also using halides I have a new cycled and empty (full of live rock but no corals) my tank is 36"x18"x24" I have a 3 inch sandbed and I built a canopy that's 23 inches tall (I know huge but I wanna be able to put my lights as high as I wanted) anyways my question is I currently have a single 400 watt my question is would it be good for a mixed reef or to much I have a single 250 also but wanted to try the 400 out first and comments are appreciated thx so much
