Looking to do something with a 7 gallon long tank, any ideas that wouldn’t require too much of an investment?

Softies as corals. A nice Coral Banded Shrimp. A Pink Skunk Clown, and Yellow Tail Damsel as fish. ;)

Take a look at my build thread's first video for a look at my 7.5 gallon cube and also this YouTube video below.

I would say fish-wise go with only one damsel or one clown, not both. Or, as I did with my 20 gallon cube, go with a bunch of the tiniest gobies (not the larger sand sifting sorts).

As far as equipment goes, an Aquaclear HOB or the Tunze Comline "box" filter should do the job. If cost wasn't an issue, I would say go with an Oase canister filter and some glass lily pipe inputs/outputs. This would add additional volume, and the easy to access pre-filter assures you won't turn it into a nitrate factory. Also, for tiny sumpless tanks the Eheim Skim350 is an inexpensive ($30) way to add additional flow and get crystal clear water surface from its skimming abilities.
