I'm considering buying an ATI sunpower 8x24w T5 fixture but am worried that it might create too much heat for the tank and not get enough cool air for the fan fixture. I would most definitely have to get a fan to blow over the water and possibly cut a a hole in the canopy over the fixture's fan. Does anybody have any thoughts or experience? Thanks

I would think you would be good by placing a couple 4” fans on either end of the tank with louvers on the opposite end to draw cooler outside air across the top of the tank. I’ve seen this a few times and it worked well. Good luck.

If you have a canopy you should certainly vent it some way.

I have a old LED blackbox and a 175W mh over my tank. There is a solid 5" fan in the top that draws air out.

I made a canopy for my 200G long ago, I had 2 metal halides, and 2 VHO 4' long.

made it with 3x 5" DC fans for intake with PC filters, and had 3x5" DC fans for exhaust, these fans were purchased from fry's electronics in the PC section. they were not cheap as they were ball bearing and were very quiet. Used a jigsaw to cut out the patterns for the fans.

I wish I had a picture I can show, but that was 20 years ago.
