The best way imo to support lfs is buying their livestock. I never get equipment from an lfs, that's not what I want from them.

If you can swing if get a custom made tank :)

For reference cheaper is glass cages more expensive is planet aquariums and very very nice is reef savvy.

Good call. I absolutely plan to get all livestock from lfs. I want to see what I am buying in a tank. How about Seapora tanks? I guess they used to be Deep Blue. This is the brand my lfs deals in.

I guess I should also ask you how much water do you plan on storing? Premixed saltwater and clean ro/di for top off? It is always nice to have a fair amount of premixed salt on hand. Whether it be for setting up an auto water change system using dosing pumps or if you have to do a big water change in an emergency situation to get a crashing tank back into shape. All things to consider. Im designing my new system now. Will have auto water change running at a rate of 3-5 gallons per day plus whatever I need for top off after evaporation. I have 2 Norwesco 150 gallon tanks. One stores ro/di. The other is premixed salt. My total system volume will be close to 375 gallons. Auto water change will run schedule at 6 days per week. When the premix tank nears empty the fresh water will pump into the salt tank so I can mix and stir it with a pump for 24 hours to stabilize before the water change cycle picks back up. In the meantime, the fresh ro/di container will refill. Which also fills a 5 gallon auto top container under the display tank. I use a 7 stage ro/di system from bulk reef supply with. Booster pump. I have the incoming pressure set to about 85 psi. My incoming TDS varies from about 140-160. At times you can smell the chlorine in the water here in Florida when they treat the supply. You'll want to make sure you get filters that really take care of that issue because that is bad for the tank. Anyway... enough of my long winded diatribe. That water plan makes sense. Watch brs videos on rodi they do an excellent job of explaining them.

I haven't heard anything bad about deep blue /seapora. Deep blue made a very cool dimension 80g iirc. Obviously that isn't large enough here though.

Yeah, absolutely! I started off with BRS 150 gpd value system. 200.00 bucks. Worth it! My water was fine with that system. For my own satisfaction, I ended up upgrading the system to 7 stages. So instead of the typical sediment, carbon block, RO membrane, and single DI. I now have dual carbon blocks, triple DI, and added the booster pump to increase and stabilize psi. I got the auto shut off switch, extra pressure gages and a triple port tds meter. So I can see incoming tds, tds after RO membrane, and then final product water after the DI stage. This is helpful because I can tell when its time to change the filters through each section. Either by tds readings and pressure changes through sediments and carbons.

Looking for DT advice. I would like a DT of between about 70-90g. It will be in-wall, on a corner, with ample service space behind the wall. Something like 21Hx19Wx48L. The reef ready tanks seem to sacrifice aqua-scape space in the tank for the overflows. I am thinking an external overflow plumbed down to the sump may be best give the space flexibility I have behind the tank. Does this make any sense (new reefer)? Also, any thoughts on pros-cons of DT bought on line and shipped vs getting one from LFS?

I thought I always wanted a reef ready set up. I found a used set up that was not drilled and picked up an overflow box from Life Reef. Jeff there is very knowledgeable and built a reactor to fit my sump as well. I am happy with my hang on overflow and so glad that I did not give up the room in the tank. It also gives you the option to move it if for some reason you need to tweak your display. I would not choose a standard drilled tank for any future I may do unless it is custom to fit a specif build. Then something like count Krunk mentions may be the way to go. I have a 90 gal half moon. Thought it would be more than I needed but after 6 years I am out of room and have to cut my corals back from getting too big. Good for frags if I can find anyone who wants them. If you are thinking bigger now you may just want to take the leap.
