Little update on the gem tang. He’s doing very well.

My OP seems to be starting to get hinges of blue and is happily encrusting. Pic is under 8k so no blues from the radion we’re influencing it.

The acan’s colouration isn’t stellar (looked very different from the pics when I got it home). I’ve heard that acans can change colour when under LED’s (will turn orange). Obviously I don’t think that happened but I know different supplies have different lighting.

Chaeto is ready to be taken out (I took off the LED’s from the reactor because it actually almost caught on fire). Not trusting Chinese LEDs ever again (they burnt on me twice)

Some very sad news in the last few days...

I lost the gem tang and it died randomly overnight
The day before he was like this

5DB46751-31B1-40FD-A0E4-7205751A5078.jpeg

I found it stuck to a powerhead.
It was eating amazingly before and the dealer I got it from said that it was qt’d in copper, nitro and prazi.

All of my fish were qt’d in copper and prazi for 6 weeks
All of my corals were dipped
My rock was all dry and cycled for 6 months
I can’t see where’s the disease came from

The fish was fed vitachem soaked with mysis and seaweed clips daily

The fish however looks skinny

This is a very expensive loss on my part because gems cost 2-3x as much in Canada as they do in the US

I will be getting a replacement gem tang (I’m going now to be paying for it), but I’m going to ask the dealer to hold it in his tank for 3 months because I want to make sure it doesn’t die because of collection methods and that it is really healthy. I’m also going to remove all the fish from the display tank (the 2 clowns and bangaii) and quarantine them for 80 days to ensure nothing is in the tank and so parasites can die.

Pic of a likely replacement one from my dealer

The new gem will be on the way in a couple months so that update with the gem will be a lot later.

It saddens me to lose a $3-4000 fish and it sucks that I’m gonna have to pay for a new one. Rest assured im getting somewhat of a deal because my dealer treats his customers well.

And I know it’s easy to hate on a 15 year old who can afford to buy 2 gems but please refrain from any hateful messages.

I feel like I couldn’t do anything in this situation and it shows that even if you qt, you can still lose fish randomly.

Haven’t had an update in a long time! Sorry I had a lot of school work in the last 2 months.
I’ve added a lot of corals. These include:

Walt Disney acro
Beserko cyphastrea
Bizzaro cyphastrea
Montiporas
Forest fire digi
Blue acro
Branching cyphastrea
Rock flower anemones
Duncans
Rr stellata
Rr green anacropora
Lepastrea (I think) I forgot
A lot of the Lps frags (incl cyphastrea) was free from my friend but I kind of fragged them on the spot so idk if they will survive.

The monti, branching cyphastrea, rr red anacropora and forest fire colonies I am holding for a friend while he is selling his tank. They most likely aren’t for sale so they aren’t staying in the tank.

I also rescaped the tank so it’s more practical for coral placement.

Would love to hear suggestions for any corals to put at the top of the tank that isn’t extremely expensive.(I’m not looking for a jaw dropper or a home wrecker at the moment, I’ll wait till my tank is a year old) nothing more than $200-300 usd per frag

Oh long time no update! This is a full tank shot and I’ve added some fish to add nitrates to the tank. My skimmer and algae reactor was just stripping them too quickly
