Got a little tester frag today. Looks like a sunny D (pretty sure it is but cant see the full mouth cause of surface agitation)
sunny d.jpg

Really bad pic cause when I used the warm filter on it, it ended up looking worse so I just ran with the natural iphone settings

Im stumped about what I should get next. Im thinking on doing some designer acros (picking up an inexpensive ORA red planet as a tester frag),
Red planet.jpg.jpg

I bought the one on the bottom left...

(Photo credit to leicalux, this is their 1.5" bounce frag)

however I also want to buy a sizeable 1.5" WWC OG bounce frag (they sure have come down in price a lot).

I've kept a lot of acros before but am hesitant on getting them for a tank this new despite the fact that the rock has been established for over a year.

Whoops forgot about the superman frag :D

I got back from the cottage recently so I haven't done any updates.

I got 2 acros today

I also tried to fix my vertex skimmer and realized my impeller was busted and thought that the whole pump was toast. I used pliers and pulled the thing out and low and behold... there was a dime in the impeller!
IMG_3235.JPG

This is the pump after I removed the impeller, and it seems to be fine. Now all I need is a new impeller..

Finally, I made a DIY chaeto reactor with a phosban 150 reactor and some LED lights off amazon:
Link for the lights: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B077WNRGFX/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've done a chaeto reactor before and it worked very well. Due to my limited space and hesitance to do zeo again, I will probably use this and my skimmer as my main means of nutrient export.

Pic of the reactor (cant upload atm but will edit on phone)
I have no tubing right now so I cant run it yet :(

Quick little update!

I installed the chaeto reactor and my kamoer dosing pump and everything is running now.
I also got a new impeller (actually quite some time ago) so my vertex omega 130 is working now.

Sump shot
(I got a ton of messy marinepure since I had to move it)

The doser set up (not dosing atm), only liquid dosing and testing with test kits.

Also ordered a nice rainbow acan from Candy Corals which I will be picking up on the 22nd

I’m studying for my biology test but I want to keep the thread not dead so I’ll update it at 2 am :D

My friend is going to be picking up the acan and an RR orange passion frag for me at a frag show tommorow . (Shoutout to the Brantford Coral show)

On the other note, my birthday is nearing soon ( in around a month) and my amazing parents have decided to bless me with a phenomenal gift that will be coming in next week:

Picture from the wholesaler (this ain’t my tank)

Can you guess what zebrasoma that is?

And before I get tank policed, the guy is small and I will have to deal with him when he is too large. In my opinion the actual care is as important as the tank volume and I know I’ll get a lot of hate, but I’ve seen many zebrasomas thrive in smaller tanks.

Join some reefing groups! I’m quite active in my reefing groups and have made lots of acquaintances with people that share the same passion. The fish is not a purple or black tang however. Purple are nice but I don’t need another one and Black tangs are expensive for what they look like imo. Also don’t like the long nosebleed on black tangs. This is Canada so stuff is like double the price :( Purples are $150 and black tangs are almost $1500 with tax.

They are expensive I agree! I dont worry about it though because my tank isn't big enough for a month old tang [emoji23]. But yeah I'll look into local reefing groups now.

What kind of acan colony is that in the white light pic in the center? My 10 year old would freak for it.

He is located in Canada and I got my zebrasoma off of him. He mainly deals with high end coral and has clientele in the USA as well. He sold his $5000 RR JD colony to someone in NY I believe

Here’s his site
http://candycorals.ca/product-by-category.php

He posts on his fb the most
https://m.facebook.com/candycorals.ca/

I’ve bought more than a dozen RR pieces and high end corals from him and they are always healthy.

This was a recent monti frag pack he sold with stunning colours
