Yesterday I noticed this on my acan and I’ve had it for about 7 months and never saw this before. Totally different than the polyp extension after adding polyp boost. It was a fleeting thing and couldn’t get it under whites but did use my orange filter.

Those look like mesenteric filaments... Something is irritating the coral.
Thanks for replying. I just fed it mysis about an hour before this started. The chalice behind it does have long sweeper tentacles but the flow pushes them in the opposite direction. I’ll have to check again after lights out, maybe the flow has changed.

They can emit the filaments when eating too...

I looked back and the first time was on a day I fed it mysis and broadcast fed reef chili. I’ll begin to start looking for a pattern. Thanks again and happy Thanksgiving.

Some LPS, can reach out and digest a nearby coral. I once had an orange lobo for a short time. It could reach corals 4” away, digest them then pull the dissolved tissue back to their stomach. I don’t know if that is what your acan in doing or the scientific terminology. Probably as stated above a feeding response. I was amazed and p’d off about that lobo.

looks to me what is known as Mesentrial filaments from a feeding response where coral is trying to digest excess nutrients, and use these filaments to obtain food in various forms , or even when nutrients are low and .. . . . even happy coral will display these filaments
