TRYING TO RAISE pH BY REDUCING CO2 FROM CALCIUM REACTOR

My reefer friend spend 5k on one (unit+install) and it didn't do much. I've wanted to do this but man, thats a lot to pay if it doesn't work...

Adding one to my home did next to nothing as well. Just one or two people at home easily negate any CO2 removed by an ERV. It also did little to nothing for humidity like so many claimed.

If I was trying to raise pH, this is one of the last places I’d look. I’d simply dose sodium hydroxide for alkalinity and raise the pH that way. Easier and cheaper by a mile

I thought (yeah, yeah…I know. Trying not to hurt myself. Ha.) that HRV was the one that removes humidity, while an ERV actually helps in keeping interior air from becoming too dry? I dunno, all sounds like Jacks magic beans to me in either case.

Also curious if it was undersized, or not enough runtime to be effective? Just based on all these claims floating around. I mean, I open a window at either end of the house for ventilation and Co2 drops like a lead balloon. So in theory, I could totally understand an ERV/HRV effectively doing the same……

But yeah, SH or even Kalk to a certain extent would be a heck of a lot cheaper and easier. Strictly speaking to the tanks ph. Obviously there is no human health benefit as it does nothing for reducing Co2 in the home.

I got away from monitoring pH in my calcium reactor. I just monitor the effluent carbonate hardness. If it is around 28 dKh, I'm happy. I adjust the flow/bubble count as required to maintain the tank with the 28 dKh effluent. I wish I could remember who here recommended this method. Maybe someone can help me out. I don't want people to think I devised the method. I have checked the pH in the effluent a couple of times. It tests around 7.0. I use Reborn media. Could you decrease the pH of the effluent?

You could run the effluent through a Cheato Refugium. I think it could use some CO2.

Mine could be an HRV. I don’t even recall these days because it was such a bust. It is still running because I cut massive holes in the side of my house for it. I don’t think it does anything though.

We had awful fires around us this year and I turned it off for a couple weeks when ash was falling from the sky for days on end. Nothing in my house changed and I watch humidity like a hawk.
