Acan Ecinata Placement

I just acquired a nice little frag of Mango Tango Rainbow from WWC, as well as a nice bright acan echinata from Jason Fox a couple of weeks ago. :bigsmile: These are both gorgeous pieces, and I'm trying to figure out the best placement for them in my tank. I hear that these usually prefer low light and modrate flow, but was basically wondering if I should leave them in the sand or mount them to a low-lying rock.

In addition, I've heard they can be pretty aggressive so I suppose that I should keep them away from other corals.

Does anyone have any experience or advice about these echinatas?
 
Not these specifically, but my acan is on te sand bed, and has no problem. Seems to be very happy.
 
Indirect lighting is what I've always heard. They are pretty aggressive, keep that baller pack you bought away from this guy.

I have my enchinata about 27" under my 250w MH lights. I would say I have them under moderate light and flow. My lords are even farther down over 35" under the lighting to get deeper color. I almost lost my favia frag that was about 4" away from one of my enchinat frags. I was checking the tank when I woke up and the enchinata sent its feeders out and grabbed the favia frag and actually lifted it out of the eggcrate and pulled it right next to it to feast on. I lost half the favia frag.
 
I have 4 Acans in my tank mounted in the rocks toward the bottom of the tank. One is situated about mid way up and directly under the MH. All seem to be doing very well with good current going over all of them. My Fruit Loops zoas are growing into one of them. No stinging that I can see, but they do "bush" out and retract so give them a little room.

Wow! That's a whole different league of accession. Thanks for the heads up on that one, brotha. I'll make certain to give them an extra wide berth
 
my ecinata is under a over hang getting indirect light. I banished it there because it one of those corals that will destroy anything that it comes in conact with so I need to keep it isolated. Seems to be growing pretty quickly in that location to.

Wow! I've seen the "web of death" from my echinatas before, but never had the feeders actually pull another frag toward it. Definitely give the echinata plenty of space! I've had my echinats take out a few frags from several inches away as well. They'll leave a white stringy web over the other frags and kill them overnight. It's actually pretty impressive how potent their sting is.

WOW! That is amazing! Actually picked it up! Thank you for the heads up on that. I thought the agression was mainly to keep space not to have dinner.

Woooah that is insane would have been cool to capture that on video. Lucky you only lost half the frag.
+1 one moderate light and flow - and beware of the feeders lol
 
Yeah I was shocked to see the frag actually laying on it's side out of the eggcrate only an inch away fro the acan. The favia frag was not a big one but still to pull it up out of the eggcrate. I spot feed all my acans also at least twice a week so it's not like it was starving to death...lol. I'll see if I can get a pic later today to show where it was sitting.
