Best Wavemaker to add 200g Tank

Hello been doing alot of back and forth and cant really decide on a wake maker to add to my tank looking for some input!! Currently have a 200g 6ft x 30x 24H. I Have 2MP40 on opposite sides looking to add to them as i dont have enough flow currently. Was torn between 2 Nero 7s or 2 more MP40 OR 2 MaxSpect Gyre 350 cloud. Any and all thoughts/recommendations welcome!!!

I know it costs a lot but an MP60 will carry quite the load. Throw in an extra wet side to swap out every week and you have a long lasting safe pump that throws a TON of water.

There really isn't a best, just many different options. The fact you already have a pair of MP's my first thought is to stay with that product line if you are happy and buy more. Or buy a MP 60 that was mentioned above and re-arrange placement. Of course the concern may be that the 60 is close to 900 USD vs 480 USD for the 40. It goes without saying the flow differences between the two so there is that (although if there is a possible tank upgrade it will carry forward).

Maxspect Gyres are solid, fast motor block, flow directors. 350's are large. Laminar flow. Cleaning will be a lot different than your MP's. Probably the bigger complaints on any gyre brand. Maxspect used to include spare blades and cages which makes them one of the easier to maintain. Orbits do not nor does Icecap. I've used these three brands and Maxspect was the better in my experience. Orbits are nice because they fall into the Neptune, AI, space for control. Icecap worked.

At the end of the day it really is a personal choice on brand. Flow type for problem solving. How often you want to clean them, ease of cleaning, etc. Of course budget. I personally do not like a lot of different brands of flow in my display tank. In my opinion that tells me I got flow wrong and was triaging with band aides. It also means, again to me, that I wasted a bit of money by not getting it right.

It may help some here if you could attach a couple of screen shots of the display and current placement.

If space allows you could also do something like an Tunze ORCA. You have options.

I was thinking tunze orca, or at least 2 more mp40’s, but agree that mp60’s would suit your tank better likely.

I had 4 mp40’s on my 6 ft 180 gallon tank. Recently, I moved to 1 orca 6105 and kept 2 mp40’s going. The flow in my tank is much better.

I’ve tried gyres in the past.The flow was great, but I felt like I had to do too much maintenance to keep the flow high.

Ya keep hearing things about how good gyres are but then a year later the pump is seizing up and all kinds of stuff. Definitely makes me hesitant to go that route.

I'm glad to see this. I have four MP40s on a 7ft tank and have been considering trying an orca 6105 on one end to replace MP40s. I'm phasing out the MPs as the dry sides become noisy. I have two orca 6075s and two MP40s on the back wall of a 4ft peninsula and really like the flow I'm able to create. I also love the 5 year warranty and tunze has been great whenever I've had issues.

I would recommend seeing one in person if possible. Or ask a couple of users to share a couple of photos. The Tunze power heads are large. US Baseball or Softball type of size. In your case placing them on the back wall may be ideal but you have a pretty open aquascape so keep that in mind.

I'm surprised that you are saying you have flow issues with 2 MP40's and that aquascape. What do your program profiles look like? I was half expecting large coral colonies or a different aquascape to be the cause of the issues. I do not mean that disrespectful but rather correlating it to my flow frustrations in a similar 210 gallon size tank.

Edit: when you do have a chance just edit the images you shared with an arrow to the MP location - it may help members zero in on them.

I'll never own a gyre again - too much maint and they eventually fail and metal gets in the tank.

I have mp60's, and have recently added SOW-15's for extra flow, I'm impressed with them. Cheap, lots of good flow, long lasting. And if they do somehow break, cheap to replace. They now make a more advanced MOW-15 version, probably worth checking out. I know POTO uses these too.

I am about to set up a 225g peninsula. It was recommended I try the Octo pulses. You are able to adjust the heads to your flow liking. And I run hydros so less clutter under the tank....

My orca is in the middle ish back and the mp40’s on the side. My tank has 2 old style corner overflows.

I’ve heard good things about the mow’s and sow’s but never used them.
