Hey folks!

Just wanted to share an interesting phenomenon going on with my acans! A few weeks ago I was doing some tank re-scaping to make room for some new arrivals and I just kinda tossed my two acan colonies together figuring "whats the worst that could happen" but to my surprise, I think they're actually sharing genetics and expressing both colours!!!!!

If there's a more apt name for this process or whatever is happening I would love to know as I've only been reefing for about 9 months!

So the red one on the left is kind of expressing the grey/blueish hue on the farthest polyp! and the larger blue/grey colony is expressing that striking red colour in almost of its polyps now!

Sorry for the blurry/tang intruded pictures!
he never lets me get good pictures :)

I might update this as time goes on if anyone is interested!!!

p.s they look better under blues, but I don't have a filter so they just look washed out lol

This is awesome! I’ve been searching around for an answer as to whether or not you can put the same type of acans close together (practically touching) because I’m in the same boat. Trying to make room for other coral, and I found yours! I hope mine do that soon! Or at least, I hope they don’t kill one another

I've got 3 different types of acans touching with no issues, been like it for almost a year. They literally open on top of each other. You can see them at the bottom in the middle.

That is so beautiful!!! I've currently got five close to each other and I've been watching them like a hawk to make sure nothing happens.

The purple-ish one has been adopting more of the red!!!! unsure why red has dominance over purple... but I'm not complaining!

It has also popped out some new polyps underneath it that for some reason have a blue tinge too???!!!! (sorry for the photo quality on the last one... awkward angles!!!) Not sure what that's about maybe some latent genetics in there.... or my parameters have finally been stable enough for them to express their true colors!

Ps. Clyde the clown says hi!
