Hey guys I know I'm not the only to have witnessed this terrible fate of having some of my acans all of sudden recede to its death so helplessly. Is it some kind of bacterial infection or some kind of micro bugs eating away at them? It starts out as seeing the polyps deflated and you can see the skeleton areas between the polyps. It will slowly and/or start recession from polyp to polyp. I first seen this happen with one of my blastos. One of my 6 head acan has died like this. I currently have about 14 different acan lord frags. And currently 2 are having these symptons. INCLUDING my beloved "FRUIT LOOPS"! :mad:I'm so ticked off and bummed out! 2 of the polyps of my fruitloops are gone.:( Anyone have any clues or remedies? Losing $300+ in corals just over a month is depressing enough. I wish there was a coral doctor around.

^ Care to explain what that is? Where can I get that? I've been into reefs for only half a year or so. Still a newbie.

I member of our local reef club has had this happen. It affected all of his LPS corals but not his acros. His acan colonies just started receeding from the outside in. no signs of any infection or anything on the coral ( no bugs, jelly etc). All the other polyps look healthy and puffy. It started slow but got quick, I believe 1/4 inch a day or so!! Even his frogspawn/hammers were affected - the white flesh that grows down the stalk began receeding up! He tried everything possible. Stray voltage, uv, I think ozone, small water changes, big water changes, moving some ofthe corals to a seperate tank, dips in tmpcc. Finally he tore the tank down ( it had been set up for I think 5 years) cleaned the rock and substrate dipped all the corals - It seemed to stop the deadly recession. for about 2-3 weeks!! He said it looks like it started again!!! It is very frustrating to loose corals and not know why!! I am watching my acans/micros everyday because I am paranoid it will happen to me. I hope we can find a cause and a cure for this deadly LPS issue before devestates our collections.

Aussie - tmpcc ; tropic marine pro coral cure. It is a coral dip available online and in some local stores. It is thought, by most to be one of the best if not the best coral dip available. a definate staple item to have on hand.
