Acan Lords and Alkalinity

What do you find is the best alkalinity level for acan lords? While were at it, calcium too. :)

I keep my alk around 11-12dkh and calcium around 450-480 and my Acans are fat and happy!

Here's a shot of the first 2 Acans I ever bought.

Alk 8 - 12, Cal 400 - 450. Don't think that helps. What is more important is stability. I would start at the beginning. What does your salt mix up too? There are so many variables. Like when you do a water change do your levels change? Are you dosing?

Alk between 8-9dkh, calcium around 425 and mag is 1300-1400 and all acans are very happy and multiplying fast!

Not saying I am having an issue just was wondering. :)

8-12 dkh and 420-480 ppm are the common ranges of most salt mixes, if your doing consistent water changes I would try to keep your levels near those of your favorite salt mix for stability. Other factors may come into play ie:nutrient levels, bio-pellets, ca reactors and so on. Each system is different but I have found lower alk seems to promote better coloration; I keep my system at appx 8.5/480 and everything from acros to acans and montis are thriving and maintaining excellent growth/coloration. There's my .02c hope it helps Rev.

This is what I was trying to say.

I prefer to keep my Alk around 8.5 and my Calcium around 450. I use around lovely since I keep them as stable as possible with dosing pumps. I test weekly to insure they don't vary much.

I designated a measuring cup just for my salt bucket. So my levels are pretty accurate

Good info!
