Acan/Micro with exposed skeleton dead spots

Hi y’all! I got this beautiful acan/micro frag recently but it arrived with a few dead spots where there’s white jagged skeleton showing. What’s the best course of action for this situation?

- What do you think caused this?

- Will it heal over time?

- Is there anything I can do to help it heal faster/better?

- Anyone have pictures showing similar situations before/after to give me some peace of mind?

I think it’s still acclimating since I just added it, so hopefully the polyps get more fluffy and cover the skeleton a bit better when fully open. Attaching pics showing the exposed skeleton under blues and before lights.

Any suggestions/experiences/lessons learned would be appreciated. Thanks!

As to what caused it, shipping can be very stressful on corals. A number of different things could have happened between packing, shipping, and receiving. I've had colonies that were too close to a heat/cold pack that came out of the box in rough shape and also one that fell off of its frag plug during shipping and the plug rubbed the polyps too much causing tissue damage.

No seller sent a picture showing the frag had one dead spot and then I asked him not to send it but then he said he had sent it already. Sent him the same picture showing additional dead spots and asked for advice on whether I should do an iodine dip or other husbandry but he stopped replying and just sent payment reminders through paypal so I just paid it to avoid any conflict.

So now i got this and want to save it if possible…

I would Spot feed 3 times a week it and maybe not so much light for a bit. Looks like several heads are still going.

Question: doesn’t algae build up on rocks too, so how do these corals encrust over rock?

Acan is a polyp coral not an encrusting type, or at least, IMM. New polyps start at the edge.

But yours is damaged in several spots which makes it difficult for full photosynthesis to take place. Mouth may also be damaged, and that’s usually, game over.

You should not have been sold damaged product and it appears the seller knows that.

That being said, there’s not much you can do but watch. Recovery is possible, but unlikely.
