Acans dead? Or just retracted?

All parameters are good calcium can be higher it’s 380 right now I’ll be switching salt to reef crystals I was using instant ocean salt..I also just moved them further down in the tank l. They have thrived for the most part where they were before about 110par.

corals are tough creatures I've found out, and can bounce back from a lot but this guy looks pretty rough. did you have a big param swing? mine like to shrink when there's a param change.

Something strange is happening in my tank I have another forum on it. But all about a week ago they shrunk like that, everything was fine params were perfect n they still shrunk. So I did a big water change to be safe and they’re still the same way. I’m not sure what happened the only thing was my calcium dropped from 400-380 and also I did have somewhere nitrates like 20 but I’ve had that before n they been fine so I did the wc and nitrates went to 0 and calcium still 380. So I thought it was the light maybe so I moved them lower n still nothing and I tried feeding them so idk

Not really a big swing I would say, calcium 400 to 380 and I had some nitrates but I did a wc n went to 0 nitrates. But they shrunk a week ago when everything was fine too so I did a wc n everything’s good but they still shrink

Mine looked like that when my peppermint shrimp decided to eat them. It started coming back after I removed the shrimp... but it's starting from the beginning. I have a very small portion of one of the heads growing back.

I do have a peppermint shrimp I never see him on them tho maybe he’s the culprit. Sucks cuz I just had gotten the first one about a week ago and it was huge! Looked beautiful now it’s done smh =[

what about alkalinity. when we are talking about swings alkalinity would have more of an impact

Alk did change it was 7-8 prior watch change and now it’s 10. But again they had shrunk when it was at 7-8 now its I guess worst wit the change at 10?

If you dropped your nutrients to 0 that would do it. Reefs are a balancing act of nutrients.

It could be from any number of things.... May not be the Pm shrimp.... I just know mine looked like that. She was eating them at night. I caught her one morning munching on the blasto. Mine also had eggs and I think she was super hungry cause I wasn't feeding heavy cause there were no fish in the tank at that point.... so i'm not sure what caused mine to do it. Mine has been growing back for around a month, but you can see how it's skeleton was picked clean in a day or two as well. I had an acan die due to stress from shipping. Its flesh peeled off slowly over a week or so.

I think you’re right I also cleaned out my filters rinsed everything out so I def lost all nutrients. But even before I did this. When I seen them shrink about a week ago everything was fine I had done nothing to the tank for a while before hand so I’m just confused, I think I made things worst by cleaning everything n changing the chem

I know mine start to retract if the temp starts pushing into the 80 degree range. With summer upon us, I wonder if that could play a role... but that one has parts of it that are dead... it may grow back, as I was certain mine was dead too.. My nitrates are over 20 (I've been trying to get them down) and they haven't retracted due to that. They def need some nitrates though.... Did the one you posted a picture of look like before the water change or was it retracted before the water change?

With summer upon us, I wonder if that could play a role... but that one has parts of it that are dead... it may grow back, as I was certain mine was dead too.. It was already retracted before the water change that’s why I did it
