Just Pick Up My Acanthophyllia , Arrived friday from Corals.com It opened nicely today but as soon as light went out it complete deflated , expelled white stringy substance and left my tank all cloudy. Itsort of looked like a mini volcano, I have never seen such occurrence. Anybody else ever see this kind of thing? Should I be worried ?

Po4 is pretty low. It could have expelled its internal algae.

could it be going sexual, meaning the stuff it expelled is meant to reproduce? I know nothing about those corals but I have read other things in the ocean do that they toss it into the current so to speak.

Going based off what other said I can confirm it expelled something, maybe excess food it got prior or something along those lines.

I check my NO3 and it has risen 2ppm sitting at 7.6 now. Only thing that can explain the raise is last night occurrence.

It's a boy!
your animal spawned. Meat corals will sometimes do this after a particularly stressful shipping experience, and it should open back up within a few hours. However I suggest doing a large scale water change, turning your skimmer on high, and whatever else you can do to remove the sperm from the water. There are many stories of giant clam spawns completely wiping aquariums when cleanup wasn't started in time.

Looks Like it still not opening , contacted the vendor there saying it looks healthy but its mouth is open and deflated. Luckily it’s not showing any of the skeleton.

I did move it over , it’s getting about 60ish par and flow relatively low . I noticed it had some food remaining and blew it out with a pippette. Seems like it was having some digestive issue or something. Hoping it will inflate and close its mouth . But now going on day 4

I just tested today again. Parameters have been pretty darn consistent for the past weeks everything else in my tank is nice and puffy. Had a prior Acatho in here and it was nice puffy just was too big so I had to sell it. The rise in Nitrate was expected as it produced tons of waste. It was hovering about 7.6 but did my weekly 20% wc

Ensure light intensity & flow is low. For ex. I had lights at 60% and have an unhappy acantho that I'm lowering to 50%. My MP60s are at 20%.

Did you target feed the acantho? If no, go feed it and leave it alone for a week. If yes, wait for a week.

Thank you for the help, I will give it a try. Flow has been turned down but I will definitely try to place in an area that has almost none. As far as PAR its currently around 60ish when I measured a couple weeks ago so let see if killing the flow does that job !! I have not just got it on Friday and vendor said they did , I’m going to give it a week before I feed again usually Monday is the day I feed my tank

Notice the tentacles aren't moving. Low flow.

And then see the other pic where I got an acantho hidden near a cave with no flow. Had it since May '23.

There definitely some nice looking pieces, how far down do you stick them in you sand bad?

This is how mine looking this morning so it looks like good signs of it coming back, it’s mouth is open so I’m hoping that it fully open soon
