Accidentally tore byssal threads

I was trying to remove my maxima clam from its clam holder so I could transfer it to the rock. In the process of gently removing the clam from the holder, I tore some byssal threads but not all. Will the clam die or is it only if the actual byssal organ is torn?

If it's just threads it should be fine. If it was the fleshy part of the foot you may have an issue.

When I turned on the lights the clam was 1/4 of the way open but its mouth was gaping a little

If it's just threads it should be fine. If it was the fleshy part of the foot you may have an issue.

Keep an eye on him but there's not much you can do if he geos down.

Always best when trying to move a clam that is attached with it's threads, to hold the clam and whatever it's attached to firmly, take a razor blade and cut the threads as close as possible to the surface it's attached to. Doesn't stress the animal much...you might be a little bit though.

Byssal threads are like finger nails. As stated above shouldnt be a problem but keep an eye on it. Mine rips its own all the time climbing rocks and rotating around.

I've had it on a rock for a few days now but it isn't attaching. I'm worried. It's opening up though but not responding to shadows

my clam fell from its spot on the rock ripping out its byssal threads, I relocated it to a more secure position and feed it phytofeast and so far its been doing great after that fall
