I have a general question about an achantho that I purchased and is not doing well. I never typically order from out of state or shipping because of the stress it puts on coral but recently decided to try it out based on some positive reviews I found on the seller. The package arrived and I picked it up one hour after arrival at the local fedex. When I got there the package was completely soaked in water and almost refused to be given by the clerk but I explained what it was and he gave it to me to try and address the coral ASAP. When I opened the package the achantho had leaked almost all its water and when I pulled out the bag it had barely enough water to keep the achantho submerged if sitting perfectly upright. I reached out to the seller explaining the situation and along with sending pictures and he stated that was perfectly normal and it’s a defense mechanism. He urged me to place in my tank and it will heal. After one day it did try and puff up but would retract and expose all its skeleton. That morning I noticed it had retracted and one of my hermits was trying to clean the skeleton tips. When I alerted the seller he stated that it must be my tank light conditions and that hermits are destructive. At this point I was concerned that the coral needed a contained environment and left it at the local store to try and revive. My question is would this coral have any chance of coming back and was the seller correct stating that it was my tank and that it would recover or was it doomed from the moment I got it? I’ve read that they can heal but when the skeleton pokes through it becomes very hard for it to grow back over due to algae. I’ve attached pictures for references.

i have a mixed response. the seller should offer some form a refund if it doesnt make it, because an empty bag is the sellers fault (in almost any scenario - assuming the box is undamaged). that said, some corals are super tough and given the right recovery environment they do fine. I would make sure it gets the right light and flow.. and definitely keep hermits and anything else away until it heals.
