Hi All.

I am recovering from an outbreak of ich/flukes that has forced me to go through hypo and QT all of my display tank inhabitants in 2 40 gallon breeder tanks. Things were rough at the start (and urinoma taking out my anthias mid hypo was rough) but things area looking up, and in about a week I am going to be re-introducing all of my fish back to the display after 60 days fallow. The thread on that treatment is here. At the end of the day I have 2 QT tanks that have some LR, PVC, powerheads and one has a section of sand for my leopards. I managed to heal 11 fish:

-Foxface (big/thick 9")
-Hippo Tang (4" ish)
-Yellow Tang (2-3")
-Flame Angel (10+ years old and 4")
-Tolmini Tang (2-3")
-Cleaner Wrasse x 2
-Leopard Wrasse x 2
-Longnose Hawk
-One poor lonely anthias (others got urinoma)

Here is a photo of the setups:

I am now planning on my future replacements for the fish that did not make it, and I would like to utilize the QT tanks while they are cycled and good to go. There is an Achilles tang at a LFS that I have been watching for months. Prior to the entire disease outbreak I considered this fish instead of my friends white tail that ultimately began my entire process. This Achilles arrived at the store 4-6 months ago and certainly did have a period of "rough shape" where he had ich and possibly some secondary illnesses. I actually lent my spare UV sterlizer to the store to put on his tank, and now this fish looks amazing. No ich, swimming great and no sign of disease. He has been this way for at least 2 weeks now.

I also have access to a store that does some QT of their own on their fish. He has a wave of lyretails that has been through treatment as well as a black leoprard wrasse and some bluestar. My plan was to put a number of anthias in one tank (possibly with a leopard) and then put the Achilles in the other tank. I currently have the tanks in my office with my main tank and this is definately making a bit of a "fish store" vibe so I would ideally like to move the tanks out to the garage, but want to use them while they are cycled now and I can watch things closer. Here is the future garage setup I have cleaned up:

Based on the current health of this Achilles I am unsure what I should do for a QT protocol. I have a spare nero3 that in addition to my maxijet 1200 i was going to put in his QT and feed nori heavily. Do I really need to do any sort of profalactic copper or chlorquine phosphate treatment? I could even hook the UV back up to this 40 breeder to keep that treatment going. Was looking for opinions/strategy because I am never breaking down my tank to catch and QT the fish again.

My initial thought is to put the anthias/wrasses in one QT and the achilles in the other for a 30 day observational QT. If there are issues, i can either go the hypo route again or attempt to do copper/CP. My only issue with that is how close the tanks are to my display and the risk for cross contamination. I suppose I could make the move to put them outside. I could also consider attempting to do some degree of TTM using my 2 tanks, however the cleaning/sterlizing would really ruin the biofilter.

Open to all ideas/suggestions. I added some photos to thank you guys for reading my essay. Here is a video of the main tank as well:

Achilles are SO notorious for developing marine ich, that I would give this fish a fill quarantine despite its previous history.

Willis, glad to hear your fish are doing better. First off, I can't view your video. Jay is correct that Achilles are Ich Magnets. I would do observation at the very least for a least 2 weeks without UV, however If he were mine I would probably run a QT protocol. For the others, I would ask him what his QT Protocol is and at the very least do 2 week Observation on those also. The UV may be helpful since you lost fish to Uronema. Jay H. would know if it burns itself out without a host or simply exists. The 2 weeks will give you time to observe your DT to make sure everyone is good.

Ah my other hypo helper, glad to get your thoughts too.

i was doing to go ahead and do 30 day observational on any new arrivals even if they are pre treated. I don’t fully trust anyone’s QT unless I did it myself.

I think in the end due to aggression on an Achilles and the sensitivity I will just wait until later in the cycle to add him (or possibly a powder blue) as my last fish.
