I got a nice birdsnest colony yesterday from lfs and today was looking at it and noticed that there's a crab in there. Can't get a good look at him other then knowing that he camoflauges perfect with the birdsnest. All I've really got a good look at is his claws and they are not hairy. He looks about an 1" long. Any good ideas on how to figure out if he is friend or foe?

Most likely an acro crab, google chucks addiction hitchhikers, then go to the crab section and look at the acro crabs.

I dont think they host birdsnest though. I could be wrong. What color is he? Does ge have a black band across his eyes?

Thanks I looked but I can't pinpoint which one it is.

That's what I was thinking to but a lot of people were saying they had acro crabs hosting their birdsnest on google search so pulled up. But I don't want to assume that they were right unless I'm sure. I couldn't get a good look at it. All I know is that it had to be that same pinkish color that you see on a lot birdsnest corals. He blended in almost perfectly with the coral. I didn't get a good look at his eyes.

If you see a black bar across his eyes then you can be sure he is safe. Try to get a look at him. The non hairy body is a good sign though

I have had store bought trapezia (acro crabs) host in birdsnest and pocilopora. They very much will host in them.
