I just have a general question regarding the ability to successfully grow acros.. I have a green slimer that I've been growing out very well, as it was a fresh cut frag from my local lfs. I was wondering that if this particular coral is doing so well does it correlate to being able to grow out all acros or just this particular variety ? I've had it about 3 weeks and it's completely encrusted the frag and growing new branches. It may be an uneducated question but I've heard several different thoughts on this. I have several other sps frags that have very good polyp extension but not as much growth. Thanks in advance !!

Some of the acros will grow faster than other varieties. But if you have good growth for one then you can be sure that you are doing right things and can try other varieties too.

Every sps coral is different. Some grow really fast while others incredibly slow. For instance I have 2 acros I placed in my tank at the same exact time. One of them has fully encrusted the plug and continues to grow at a steady rate. The other has grown slightly but is coloring up nicely (it browned during shipment since Fedex took longer to deliver). Both came in the same shipment from the same vendor at the same time.

Having good PE is a large sign that you're doing something right. I would keep doing what you're doing and pick up pieces that you like. Welcome to the world of sticks! I find it a bigger addiction to have Acros versus lps and softies.

Thanks for the replies !! I know I stay on top of my parameters and was hoping I'm on the right path. You're right about getting addicted to the sticks as if it weren't for my wife that's all I would have. She has to have some movement in the tank to make it interesting for her (and to keep her involved)..

It all depends.
As above comment were made that each acro has it's own way of growing.
It's still a fine line between Nutrients and everything else.
Placement, flow, light, temp and the way you keep your nutrients and elements has all to do if you get good growth out of it.
That said it takes time as you can't compare a Green Slimmer with a Tyree PM, they both acros but a green slimmer will give you a inch per week and the PM a inch per 6 months.

Man I should have gotten a slimmer. I'd do *almost* anything to get an inch a week out of my WD.

Good color, growth and polyp extension are all the signs that you're doing it right lol. The rate of growth just depends on the Acro, placement, and lighting.

My green Slimer grows like a weed. Almost as fast as my monti caps. It loves high flow high light. Seems like the bigger it gets, the faster it grows.

I think we'd all do anything to get an inch a week........
Of growth from our acros that is..... (sorry, couldn't resist )

IME good growth from any acro is an indicator that you are maintaining an environment that can keep most any other sps/acro. There are always tweaks to be made to suit individual specimens better. Mainly placement for light and flow
