Hey everyone over the past week one of the acros that have been growing well for me starting to not look so hot, tested alk (8.5-9) and don’t have a way of testing cal rn but noticed it started to loose some color and ‘peeling’ but it’s nothing like I’ve seen so far. It looks fuzzy, I don’t see any pest or anything bothering it. Anybody have any idea on what is happening ?

also, why send in an ICP and wait a week (or more) for results instead of just gong and buying a calcium test and having an answer now?

That looks like a bacterial film growing on the dead tissue as it’s lost

You could try pulling the coral and dipping it in iodine as that’s an antiseptic

I’ve seen this before many many years ago

hmm yeah thats odd never seen that like fuzzy white before I tried to see what would happen if I blew it off but it kinda just retracted yesterday. Dont have a good way of taking this acro off the rock since its encrusted pretty well. I will see what I can do

The "fuzzy" is the flesh peeling off, or STN(slow tissue necrosis) since you said it's happening over the course of the week.

If it happens over the course of the day or a couple hours we call that RTN, or rapid tissue necrosis.

I would get that calcium checked. But doubtful that is whats's causing the STN.
